Sorry my friend, Shore has won the thirds premiership five times.

I really hope they are a good side. Rugby can only benefit enormously if CHS are competitive. Also get that CHS are more a representation of this cohort of Club footy but a step in the right direction nonetheless.

I wonder over time as cost pressures continue to rise especially in Sydney we will see more talent in these sides and other associations. Big ask if you have 3-4 kids to send them to School.

This becomes a really crucial round before the break with three undefeated teams (Kings, Joeys & Riverview) and three teams yet to record a win (Scots, Grammar & High) after the completion of round 2. None of the undefeated teams are playing each other so there is a chance they could all go further ahead with consecutive wins here. But it won’t be that simple.

TAS 1st XV v Riverview 3rd XV (11:00am on TAS Backfield)
After a really good win over Shore, TAS has an opportunity to knock off another front-runner when Riverview travels to Armidale. But Riverview have recorded two wins in a row without a point scored against them and will be tough opponents. I picked TAS to beat Shore, and I think this game will also be extremely close with TAS at home again on Backfield, which will be near 1 degree Celsius early on Saturday morning.
TAS by 3.

Grammar 1st XV v Kings 3rd XV (11:00am on Weigall #1)
Following their big loss at Riverview last week, it does not get any easier for the Grammar 1st XV as they face the undefeated Kings side at Weigall. Kings are looking good this year and would be one of the early favourites for the shield after two rounds. Something significant would have to change for Grammar to knock off Kings in this match, so I am tipping a clear sky-blue win.
Kings by 14.

Scots 3rd XV v High 1st XV (11:00am on McKay Oval)
With both teams yet to record a victory so far this season, this match takes on greater importance. One team is going to come away with some competition points. Scots will need more possession than they had against Joeys to get their pick and drive working well. High will need to play the whole 50 minutes and bring the form that they showed in their trial win over Waverley. Could be closer than people might expect.
Scots by 10.

Having witnessed Joeys’ victory over Scots first-hand, I think they are favourites again, but this one will be a very tough match.

Back in the day CHS rolled everyone every now and then. Not anymore. They'll be a good side, but they won't be competitive. Between GPS and CAS and the minor associations, anyone of major note will have been poached, as you know.

I think schools in the ISA, such as Pius, Auggies, Pats etc will be the biggest winners from these changes.

I'd make the argument, that kids will look to get into the Sydney and Country teams first before they commit to CHS. I don't see CHS improving anytime soon and it wouldn't surprise me if this game reaches triple digits.

Through an old friend of mine, I have gained access to the TAS team lists for the weekend in their upcoming game against Riverview 3XV. The Armidale side this year has shown promising results and pleasant improvements from previous season.

The team list is as follows -

I know in the u16's a number of kids have decided to go down the country pathway in hopes of making the Tahs u16 team. As was pointed out in the correspondence from Country management there are only 46 players selected to play in the regional tournament against the two Sydney teams and the NSWJRU Barbarians in Camden. So, the country kids have a 50% chance by position of making the final 23. Whereas there are 8 teams competing in schools carnival next weekend to make the 2 x NSW schools' sides that will play Sydney & Country, so there are roughly 184 kids competing for 46 positions. It should be noted that over the last 10 years 70% of the NSW schools' players have come from the GPS/CAS schools. From my experience with my own child + his mates a lot of the country kids are choosing to remain at their local school and not go to a Sydney or Brisbane boarding school because the country pathway now leads to the same destination as what the GPS/CAS kids get. The boys get to stay home and play for their clubs.
