Why are is everybody (riverview fans) so toxic tonight?

Great win for Shore, crowd loved it and the stands were vibrating. Can’t get any better than to finish like that in front of an old boy crowd.

I can just imagine how good it feels for those year 12s on and off the pitch in their last GPS game as schoolboys. Best crowd going around this season win lose or draw.

Wasn’t quite my Shore by 24 prediction but Shore by 1 point will do. Hockey, Galligan, Clout, Callaghan, Reardon, Bassingthwaite, could name them all, well played boys…

As a wise man once said; Pure joy.

Probably a Rough statement to make, No Risati and sawyer didn’t help their case in the back end of the term.

In fairness to those boys the only game they really lost in was View who are clear premiership winners otherwise every loss was a couple points or a conversion to win it after full time.
Maybe rough but it’s not a shot at the boys but the plan from above. I reckon Kings still had the cattle to play more than they did.

Still a loss for view so that hurts and a bit of the “well our prem” in 19…chat rubs people up.

Everyone would be happy as Larry by now. A great GPS season overall. 2 round H/A is the way. I won’t hear anything else about it and other joints trying to shoe horn their way into a comp.

Sucks the footy is over. Have to watch the Wallabies revert back to pumpkins after 1 good showing now.

Wendt needs a shoutout. Was best on ground today after relatively quiet performances in the previous weeks. Will be a star if he can build on today’s performance heading into next year.

Absolutely outstanding work all year. You guys have smashed the stats all year. @Ace Ventura has taken @Joker tipping to another level along side it. If I’ve missed anyone I apologise and please throw their names out there.

Adds a great element to the season. Thanks for all your effort. It’s not a waste of time.

Takeaway from the stats for me is the ancient footy adage of defence wins comps. Newington can score them but only being +33 means they’re always in shoot outs which can go either way.

What a season it’s been. Today honestly felt like the perfect way to wrap it all up. Shore picking up wins in nearly every opens game was unreal, and it would’ve meant so much for the Year 12s wearing the Blue and White for the last time. The energy was massive cattledogs flying in all over the place and everyone leaving it out there.

The 1s game had me on edge the whole way through, and the crowd was mental like they had just won the gf. Grest culture. Hockey’s huge shot on the run was a real moment, and the passion from the boys and the school after full time was something special to see.

Part of me feels like if Shore had this squad from the start, the whole season could’ve played out differently. But either way, finishing on a day like this was unreal. Big respect to Iggies on the shield, and huge credit to the boys for ending it with so much heart.

A Message for Parents as Schoolboy Rugby Wraps Up

To all the parents out there watching their boys finish up school rugby, well done. The Schoolboy rugby journey is a great part of Rugby and its sad when it ends, but also the beginning of next steps. And I hope this post is informative

Before you get swept into Colts footy...
Here’s something you might not know—and it matters.

The Colts Player Points System (2026)

There’s a rule in place that says:

Now imagine this:
Your son gets promised the world in Year 12—kitted out, schmoozed, told he'll be “developed”... only to find himself lost in a poor culture, under poor coaching, or sitting behind three older players who were promised the exact same thing.

But now he’s played six games.
Now he's locked in.
Now he’s too “expensive” to take a fresh shot elsewhere.

This system rewards clubs for fast recruitment, not genuine development.
It doesn’t ask, “Did you help this kid grow?”
It only asks, “Did you get him on the park six times?”

What Should You Look for Instead?

Before signing anything or accepting boots and promises:

  • Check the culture – Speak to families already there. Is the club really developing your player or are they just all about recruitment and grade and colts is just an after thought once the season starts.
  • Check the facilities – Is your young player going to get good access to the tools and facilities he'll need to grow from student to adult player
  • Check the coaches – Are they passionate about Colts development? Or are they using it as a stepping stone for themselves to progress to Grade?

You’re not just choosing a club.
You’re choosing a two-year experience at a critical point in your son’s journey—as a player and a young man.

Btw we should ask -
Why doesn’t the points system allow freedom of movement during Colts?
Why are 17-year-olds being forced to make decisions that shape the next two years of their rugby future before they’ve even stepped on a Colts training paddock?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to apply the points weighting when Colts players graduate to Grade?
That way, we’d be rewarding clubs who actually invest in young players—not just those who get a signature early.

I hope this is useful - make of it what you will - I will post across the forum for each ISA, CAS an GPS
Ignore if not of value.
With the completion of the season now over I wanted to bring this post by ‘Clemfandango’ back up.
.
Boys, it’s around now that Sydney Club’s reach out to certain players for 2026 Colts.

Please reread this post….and cut and paste it to your Oldies.

And for parents already members on this thread, it’s very factual.

Well what a season.

Well what a season. Riverview came today seeking a sugar bag only for Joeys to take the chocolates that mattered and leave them with the bitter ones.

A few comments on the game: Joeys hit hard and belted view from the outset. They did not kick, they ran at them and that denied riverview possession and the kicking game they do craved. View, being the great methodical team they are with plenty of ticker, the few chances they got they converted. Joeys were pushing passes and giving up possession. The 21-7 was reflective of views patience and control when joeys made mistakes rather than their general play, The key moment was the try just before and after half times that made it even. There was also what appeared to be a dubious disallowed one as well. You could see that Joeys were going to bust them.

One of the key factors here was the SW wind that blew in second half that greatly nullified the view 9 and his kicking game. View started to push a few passes, it was costly. The final scoreline was not fully reflective of the dominance Joeys had, but it did reflect Riverviews tenacity to keep on hanging in there. Well done.

Joeys deserved the win, Their backs outplayed views, Gough, finally had a good one and was straight, both sides forward D was impressive, View won the lineout, joeys the breakdown and the gain line. View tried really really hard, but they were just nowhere near good enough. They were not complacent, just not good enough.

Best on ground was the view 14, They would put the ball up, and 80% he would regather, He was such a pest and was my best on ground in the first game as well.

The forwards were very even.

So the season is closed. Congrats view on being the most consistent and best defensive team. You deserve your premiership, you were not the most attractive but were highly effective and committed. For joeys, its a bit like last year. They earnt their 3 losses. The goal kiicking early cost. The young 10 is a work in progress. Minto is class. I thought Kings was the favoured following last year, but, Like Joeys the year before did not convert when it mattered. Scots showed glimpses of what they are capable of, New need tackling backs and shore needs depth. There were still few easy games, and enjoyed all I watched.

In seconds, Joeys ability to counter set them apart. At times it was frightening how quickly they turned things around. It was not a weak competition, they were just an exceptionally well drilled team that understood the benefits of being straight.

I look forward to next year.

Please a complete waste of time in the team this year one try does not replace a year of wasted effort. Hard to tear a kid apart but he cannot be the hope that Shore pins any progress on. Absolutely Robinson at 12 and the young 9 are their bright sparks. Focus on the two team to step up.! Sorry for being negative don’t pin yourself on a ball hog or a complete waste of a kick. The 13 was a complete waste of an experience for a year 1. They shouldn’t have stuck with Robinson or Powell’s !!

Shore vs Kings at Northbridge - My honest thoughts.

You could not have asked for a better day at Northbridge to wind out the 2025 season.

They day opened with some fantastic wins from the lower opens teams, including dominant wins in the 7th, 6th and 5th XVs. The 4th XV would have been match of the day had it not been for the 1sts, a real yoyo with real class players on either side. Then the 3rds rolling out a victory to end was special as well.

So we come to the match now.

Shore started the better of the two teams, and the main men (Callaghan and Bassingthwaighte) were utilising good spcr given by the Kings defensive line who probably lacked a bit of urgency. This was then soon overturned as the machine that is the Kings forward pack woke up, and started clicking into gear gaining easy gainline ball.

This combined with some pretty timid defence and poor game management let Kings and their big boys knock over a try in quickly. I was impressed by Shores response, utilising their speed and targeting the smaller Kings wingers with the likes of D’Almeida, Wendt etc.

The game then heated up, with Callaghan sent to the bin (I assume for being the third man in?) and Kings managing to avoid any disciplinary action somehow.

Anywho, Shore tried to hold them off but with one man less, Stewart peppered the backfield and gained easy metres, and the big boys rolled another over on the stroke of Halftime.

Going into the second half, the crowds were heated with chants of “0-9” and “Shore boys are wan****” being responded to with “The I word” and signals of boys playing the triangle.

The second half until there was 10 to go was pretty unremarkable, I will note that Shore had the initiative, but seemed to turn over possession maybe 6 times inside the Kings 22.

Eventually, Shore held onto possession and Stock crawled over for a try. Then, a bit of magic and speed from Wendt had pulled Shore back to 12-10, with around 5 to go, and the Year 12s started to believe in their last outing at the Bridge.

What happened next was incredible. Recieving the ball in their own 22, Shore fought metre by metre to get to the Kings 5. Fonua then put an end to that with around 2 to go, nicking a pilfer. Frape then stole the ensuing lineout, and screams of “One more!” could be heard from the desperate Year 12s. Some bashing and rashing for 15 or so phases got Shore onto the 5, where advantage finally came.

The crowd pleaded 3, and as Bassingthwaighte stepped up many had hearts in mouths. Dead centre. Elation.

Grit I think is the one word.

It was not a pretty season, but for all Shore boys it shows their ethos.

Celebrations ensued and a good time was had at Northbridge.

Congratulations Kings on a great season and were a fantastic opposition. I suspect they will do real damage next year.

Here are some of the scores that have been witnessed

5-47
10-62
14-41
22-41
10-35

But they still showed up. Well done lads.

Not Powell…

Wendt has had a rough season; a 1XV spot is a fair bit of pressure for a kid who only played 10 minutes of footy since year 9… Sure he needs to use his hands and maybe Robinson is better on D, but give it to him, Wendt had a cracking game. He ran the ball well, set up some solid balls in the outside backs, wasn’t a weak link on defence and that try was the cherry on top.
Hate on him all you want but he played well today and could really be an impact player next season if he slots in right.

The only bitter ones seem to be the Joey fanboys on here with the churlish comments, listing premierships and such, and possessing the seeming inability to be complimentary to anyone but their beloved team.

If Joeys and their fans wanted the game to be meaningful they should have won more matches.

Joeys played hard today and clearly wanted it more, but with a backline that was in disarray for long periods of the game, while Riverview played like a team who had already won the comp after blowing their 21-7 lead working against the wind (and injuries) in the second half as you said.

And they probably would have come back and won it if the ref had played more than 0 seconds injury time after a game that was riddled with them.

A great season for Riverview, the best team in a very competitive comp this year and well deserved premiers.

Period.
