NSW AAGPS 2025

The Chairman

Trevor Allan (34)
It will be interesting to see whether or not Shore will have the same amount of depth across there opens teams as they did last year.
Well there is only one way to really test your depth...

Ok everyone.
The AAGPS tipping comp is up again.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

Question?

Would like to participate this season.
Entries close on WEDNESDAY before round 1.
Just reply with an indication of wanting to join.

There are limited places again this.
In 2025 I am though deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

A reminder on how this works...

TIPPING COMPETITION. How does this work?

For those new here I hope this explains this.

With only three games each week I devised a system where players can score more
This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.

Lose- 0

Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score

Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5

Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- 20 points If you select a draw

Here is this in action.

Game is Scots College v Sydney Boys High

Final result

Scots 10 High 32

Winning margin +22

The following members chose the following. Here is how they scored

Headbutt- chose Scots +25 (0 points)

Guppy- chose High +10 (3 points, a win but below the margin)

Muppet- chose High +26 (5 points, win within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- chose High +22 (10 points, win with the exact margin)

Maximum you can score in one week is 30 points. These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

Tips are taken by PUBLISHING them here with a post. I will endeavor to have them added by 3:15pm on Saturday.

NO TIPS are accepted after this time.

You may wish to message me as well.

TIPPING comp entries will close this WEDNESDAY 14 May @5pm .

Lots of injuries at Joeys, depth will certainly be tested....roughly a whole team on the sidelines this weekend, and some injuries season ending. Probably affecting 2's the most, but the players coming in will no doubt step up

Waves likewise after their tough tour to NZ, they ran into 2 very strong NZ schools, probably no surprise there, Waves won both physical games.
Their most experienced and gun no 8 Finegan is out, but that does give another boy a big chance to play Joeys at Joeys.
No excuses at all, just hope the weather holds and these 2 schools can play their usual running rugby games.

Should be a great first round of the GPS with shore hosting Joey's at the Bridge, should be a real test of depth and the strength of the GPS comp teams that the defending premiers have.
Someone have a word with the canteen. 2024 was a dark year for the canteen as they stopped selling the best reason to travel to windswept Stirling Bridge.....the pies! I was so upset I had to go to hospital....really.

Not to worry, I've heard from some inside sources that the Pies, sausage rolls and donuts will be making a return in 2025 as they are undoubtedly the highlight of coming to the bridge.

6. Ben Thomas
7. Tahli Fulton
8. Alex Belli (C)

What is the year 12 to year 11 ratio here?
I am tempted to say I recognise a few names as 4th xv and maybe even 3rd xv veterans.

A lower amount of year 11s in the 4ths and more veterans (& year 12s moving down teams) potentially suggests more year 11s in higher teams (3xv, 2xv, 1xv) pushing these boys around and mucking up the normal order of the year 11 seasonal influx. If this is true, it is exciting to see them given the opportunity & certainly pointing to an exciting 2026.

This is just a theory though feel free to correct me.

Twister.

Is Onitoni Large and Ohara still injured? Anyone have return dates? Little birdie Max Laverty has also decided not to play this year due to injury history, few senior players missing for Scots at the moment.
Large, Ohara, Guerin, Weir, Laverty, Aga-Petos, all injured, and Lemoto (not injured, got personal stuff) missing this weekends game against St Auggies,

Not good for Scots, as these are arguably the best 6 players injured.
Scots are always strong in 2nd’s because the Roosters demand that their players play 1’s so a lot of good rugby players are in the 2’s……..
Jealous we currently have 5 Roosters playing in the NRL team, 3 Wallabies, 4 u20 Wallabies, some more in the Tahs, Western Force, junior roosters, one playing for england, one playing for some england union team, etc etc?

None of them were imports, they all paid for fees or had fees paid for them by roosters, Scots not paying for them or giving any discount.

Notice how I excluded 2 current players who are the only ones who don't fit that criteria and are on some great music scholarships. But every school has those,

So stop the whinging, cheers. Good luck to all teams this weekend, except Shore.

Careful Rob, this is straying into the land that shall not be named.
BTW, the clause that prohibited this from the AAGPS Code of Conduct has been deleted.
Best to discuss clause 6.7 on another thread.

The rivalry was huge in the 1970's. Joeys were the dominate team in the AAGPS and Waverley were very strong as well. When they played, the games were remembered for violence on field and off. I myself was knockout with a coward punch in a line out. The brawl that followed was enormous I was told as my brothers forgot about me and went after anything yellow and blue. In the junior grades there were send offs and many a kid ending up badly injured. The Waverley lads dished it out but the Marists gave as good as they got. Eventually in 1980 Joeys made there one and only QLD tour winning all three games against Terrace, Nudgee and Brisbane Boys. They would have played Waverley but missed this as they were away. Joeys never played them again for many years. By then the nasty had diminished somewhat. Should be a good game. I will be there!
correction Joker - Joeys played Nudgee (won 26-6), Terrace (lost 7-16) and BSHS (won 16-0) in 4 days. The 2nds won 38-0, 33-7 and 22-0 against the same 3.
I believe this is the one and only time Joeys have played Nudgee, which is an abiding mystery . There have been other QLD tours where Joeys played Downlands and Ashgrove.
