Newington have not been a big traveling school recently. Such a shameNow we can't be surprised by mandatory attendance can we Ned.
In the past they used to sit next to Joeys in the Grandstand and would engage in some cheer battling.

Feel the lads are coached to play a style that doesn't suit their skilset just yet and restrictive, set piece a little shaky. View boys allowed a little more freedom to expressVery disappointing performance from TKS team after a hard fought win over TSC the week prior. Really only a couple of shinning lights from the team. As has been the trend for them it was the forwards that kept them remotely in the game. Lavercombe, Smith, Perrett and Fonua played tough and when the ball was with those boys, it was the only time TKS looked like something could happen.
Credit where credit is due, the SIC boys played smart and Grover led his boys around the park well. They played smarter rugby and definitely knew those opponent. Dempsey also a standout for the View side from my perspective.
Thank you for that appraisal as I had no idea what the penalty was for and after viewing your analysis I now know even though I thought it was the wrong decisionNudge,
My analysis was made purely in an attempt to understand why the call was made - I didn’t and don’t expect a ref to make a call with that level of precision, and that wasn’t the point. Those three claims were chosen because after reviewing the footage several times they were the only reasonable claims for the legitimacy of the call. Obviously if there was something else in the footage I would have pointed it out - my analysis was not limited to just those three claims - but as far as I can tell there wasn’t, so I didn’t. At the end of the day a call was made that decided the game, and in my opinion it isn’t unreasonable to hold a ref accountable. It’s an entirely different to a ref calling a spurious knock on halfway through the match. At the end of the day, my analysis won’t change the outcome of the game, so I can only hope it will lead refs reading it to be a bit more certain in calls with such weight.
No hate for the ref - it is not an easy job and I can understand how difficult it is to make such calls, and ultimately the ref cannot be blamed. Had Shore played a little better, that penalty wouldn’t have lost them the game. My analysis was purely made for academic reasons.

EDIT: I began writing this before seeing Joker’s recent post
My understanding was they were booing the ref after Joeys scored a try after a joeys boy took out a New and he was down with a head knock. Joeys proceeded to score with New a man down. Which was what New supporters weren't happy withAn unbelievable win and one of the historic days in schoolboy rugby for Newington College, although I’m afraid it’s been overshadowed by the school’s rotten behaviour. In all my years affiliated with the College (ON1978), I have never seen such unsportsmanlike conduct when the Joeys #10 was being vehemently booed during a conversion attempt late in the 1st half.
Not sure if anyone else was there - but for me it’s completely unacceptable. And, with the final score being 40-39, it could hold serious ramifications for the season’s trajectory with Newington gaining momentum…
PS - does anyone have tabs on the Joeys #15? Was easily the best on field despite being on the losing team, and have heard rumours he’s in Year 10
Regards,
Loosehead.

Oooh do tell the juicy details....Scots won the premiership that year right????Joker, no visiting school has sat in the grandstand since scot’s embarrassed themselves in 87.
That reason might have held some weight had they not booed at EVERY kick at goal from Joeys. (About 8 kicks in all) Very disappointing to see. I've not seen this from any other school, including Newington when they play at home.My understanding was they were booing the ref after Joeys scored a try after a joeys boy took out a New and he was down with a head knock. Scots did win, their chants that year were so boorish that visiting schools were never given reserved space in the stand again.Oooh do tell the juicy details....Scots won the premiership that year right????
Play should continue regardless of an injury unless it interferes with play, pretty much always been the law.My understanding was they were booing the ref after Joeys scored a try after a joeys boy took out a New and he was down with a head knock. Yep was there at 12 watching the game with a close eye. Shore really should some glimpses of a great team in the first 20 minutes. They were up 12-0 in no time. After that Scots 13 scored 2 try’s of the scrum the game became quite even and also quite slow. Many scrums and lineouts followed with the shore tight head winning a good scrum penalty off a defensive scrum. Was really good to see. Some highlights in the game included shores try in the 47th miniute and also Scot’s winning try after the buzzer. A real nail biting result and heartbreaking for those shore boys. Really a shame, but well done to Scot’s as the execution was top notch.Did anyone have a look at the Shore vs Scots 16a’s? I heard it was quite an intense game to watch!!!
I heard from sources that the great Rex Bassingthwaight, has a relative in the shore 16a side playing in the centres. How accurate is this? And does he have the same presence Rex does on the field?Yep was there at 12 watching the game with a close eye. Shore really should some glimpses of a great team in the first 20 minutes. After watching the game, I wouldn’t say he is on par with Rex just yet, but scored a try and made another line break. Not sure his relationship to Rex but they're not brothers.I heard from sources that the great Rex Bassingthwaight, has a relative in the shore 16a side playing in the centres. How accurate is this? Footy
Yes same last name but no relation to RexAfter watching the game, I wouldn’t say he was a standout but did show glimpses of greatness. Not sure his relationship to Rex but there not brothers.

2 Rounds down, same story.
Callum Grantham (Newington) leads the conversion kickers in just about everything. I can't remember a better kicker.
Bede Fogarty (Joeys) is the overall points leader, with a pie against Shore helping his case
Oliver Smith (Kings) is putting his hand right up for a representative spot with his 4 pies in two games. Unreal stuff from the Kings hooker.
Despite conceding 40 today, St. Joseph's College remain the best defensive team.
And I would also say thanks to Callum Grantham, Newington College are leading the point-scoring way with St. Ignatius' College right on their tail.
Play on into round 3

Correct. They were very good. Tempting to say Joeys' goalkicking cost them the game but I thought New were the better all-round side on the day (and I say that as a Joeys OB).
Very good forward platform giving their halves great service allowing their centres to make great post contact metres and several clean breaks. Joeys' centres are a real strength but their Newington counterparts continually broke tackles and also were very good defensively.
Newington's discipline was also better. This is something Joeys need to address as they gave up way too many penalties against Shore last week as well.
