Grammar has turned into a casualty ward recently, with a 3rd injury in training today to star winger Oscar Halbmeyer who suffered from, what it seems, a broken arm. With injuries to Charles Comino, Nick Carruthers and now Oscar Halbmeyer, hoping they can still maintain their pre season form going into the 1st GPS game against Armidale this weekend. Hoping for a speedy recovery for these three

Wow, the rugby gods do not seem to be on Grammar's side!! Although Oscar's injury looks to be short term, It's just a shame for him as he was an outside shot a GPS representation sources tell me, let's hope that this set back doesn't hurt his stock

What's everyones thoughts on how New will go this year? - lost a lot of quality players from last year - Murray, Kennewell, Atiola, Piroddi, Mannix just to name a few
Absolutely no flies on New this year. Again. They are solid across the park. Dismiss them at your peril.

Newington are not to be underestimated after one loss by only a single try. Watch them make a come back and that be the only loss of their season.

I have absolutely no idea about the thirds comp this year. Grammar is clearly very competitive, although those injuries are a real issue. I just feel sad for the boys. TAS lost 13-10 to Kinross but won 33-0 against High, so they look competitive. Can't tip between TAS and and an injury weakened Grammar.

The Joeys v Grammar video - my thanks, I really enjoyed it - suggests Joeys will be strong. Again, I was struck by the difference in size between the firsts and the thirds. That, of course is why we have the thirds.

On a different matter, TAS cricket and soccer teams have continued to do well, but we are stuggling a little in the netball (!) because of small numbers. The first intake of girls has been a considerable success, although there is continuing angst amongst some of the Old Boys about the changes.

I hope that you will forgive me, I know that it's off topic although it interests me, but nearly all the first intake of girls had existing connections with the school. Some had been there in primary school (that's been coed for a while), in other cases TAS Old Boys took the opportunity to send their girls to their old school, in others brothers were or had been at TAS. Interesting, too, watching the girls settling into previous male domains such as cadets.

Back to the rugby.

For the record Shore scrum was very tidy v Scots. Don't think there was any tightheads to anyone.

Scots were pretty good. I thought 7,13 and 15 were their best on Saturday.

I think what is really telling for Scots is they won 3 grades straight 2 weeks in a row. We are used to seeing an unbeatable 1st team and not much else.

kings will know they are in for a big game. peitch will help their cause but I am tipping Scots are a bit better than most of us are thinking.

Correction, Kinross v TAS 12-10

One wonders the difference this bloke would've made this year..

Blaise Barnes is a rugby union prodigy that has been inundated with offers to play in the NRL. Please ARU, get the finger out a find a Super Rugby club for this guy. No disrespect to the League, but we need to keep stars like this or he could become another Cooper Cronk or Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

I thought there were a few indicators from last Saturdays game that showed up the weaknesses Newington might have this year. I thought the relative closeness of the scores had a bit to do with Kings poor defensive reads which have to be fixed if they are to challenge. I think the problem for New was that the new boys in firsts were not contributing a lot. Helu was very good, probably best on ground. Lawson #8 also and thought Grey at lock was the only new player to the team to make an impact. Tyrone was a handful every time he got the ball but his opposite number in Orpen is no slouch defensively. Duvall and Gilfedder were solid. Kings fullback Osborne, also close to MOTM honours, clear points winner over his opposite number for New who was quiet by his own high standards. Apart from that couldn't single out any of the New team who looked like they could make an impact at the higher level. Knunzel, when he returns at #10 I'm sure will make a difference.

I thought the high score puts a bit of a question mark on both sides defences.

Obviously the game opened up in the second half, that usually indicates boys were tiring and missing tackles.

Correct re 2nds very strong side I think you may see Chadwick (9) and Yassamin (14) possibly promoted this weekend for the TKS game

Interesting. If Scots play Smith at 11 and Yassmin at 14, would have to be biggest wing combination in comp. Both 6'3" plus and quick

AAGPS TEAM OF THE WEEK

I see someone on the CAS thread doing a CAS team of the week. Probably a futile exercise with no real purpose, but for the sake of discussion I have attempted to make up a team solely from the Honorable mentions in the G&G Match reports. So have to move a few positions around and I do appear to be 1 Prop short.

I have used 3 names from each school. Some reports mentioned more than 3 so I had to pick who I thought were the best 3 according to the report.

Interesting to see nearly all the backrowers came from winning sides.

Comment as you see fit,

1 Helu (N)
2 Jeavons-Fellows (S)
3.
4. Grey (N)
5. Suttor (E)
6. Peitch (K)
7. Green (S)/ Rorke (I)
8 Fenn (I)/ Lawson (N)
9 Brown (K)
10. Lenehan (I)
11. Gregory (E)/ Day (J)
12. Sinclair (E)
13. Jaffer-Williams (J)
14. McTaggert (J)
15. Burnett (S)/Osborne (K)
