Interesting that only 1 of the 2012 contingent has been selected into 2016 NSW schools u16s (congrats Will McClennan). Would have thought there'd be more for reasons articulated on the scholarship thread.

A surprising number come from non-elite Catholic schools scattered around the state. There's gotta be potential for development there with a bit of effort.

Many of the kids from those schools end up at the elite Catholic schools in high school, anyway.
The fact that their parents are paying fees at these catholic schools indicates that they value education and would probably happily take an opportunity to get their kid into a better school, if being in the PSSA team offers one.

Few other handy types in that 2012 group. Zylstra, Savala, Lussick, Strang & Wilson who are prominent in top level association school comps.

2010 I recognise about 13 who played CAS and GPS firsts this year. (Another 2 if not for misadventure (IMO) would have)

Totally agree about the non-elite Catholic Schools and the potential talent pool. ARU must spend more time and effort on development / engagement with CCC and CHS by running and giving some prestige to competitions for U16s and Opens.

^^^Not sure ARU are the problem. CHS won 2 of 3 matches at this year's U16s schools round robin weekend and had 1 player selected into NSW Schools compared to 9 selected from one of the teams they defeated, ISA, who won only 1 of 3.

The sole CHS player selected had played for NSWJRU u15s the year before so was 'known' (not for a moment suggesting he didn't deserve his selection) whereas others, who also played extremely well, were not 'known' and arguably overlooked as a result.

If the perception is that its virtually impossible to make higher rep teams from outside GPS/CAS/ISA then it must be difficult convincing boys in other associations to make rugby their no. 1 sport.
