Surely the blues wouldnt be stupid enough to let Michael Jones son play anywhere but there.

Lol what am i saying. He will no doubt be wearing red and black soon enough.

He's already turned down Canterbury once.

This is from 2018

Schoolboy rugby sensation Niko Jones has fended off a tempting offer from Crusaders country and decided to stay in Auckland for his provincial rugby.

In my mini-preview I failed to mention the Shield match tonight, Northland looking to win it for the first time since 1978, so long ago that back then they still went by their colonial name of North Auckland. This will be their 16th Challenge since losing it to Auckland in '79 after one of the more controversial tenures: won it off Manawatu when the ref's watch stopped working & the match went at least 10 minutes into overtime (according to the locals) & promptly refused some Challenges they really ought to have accepted (rules around that were changed as a result). Possibly the last time the rest of NZ were pleased to see Auckland lift the Shield.

Wouldn't have thought it possible but Sam Nock is losing the battle of the hair-do's, Fakatawa's must be visible from the ISS & even looks like a continuation of the hoops on his jumper.

Edit: Nock has just either scored from a brilliant scoot or he's knocked it on. Knock on, Bay just dodged a bullet right there. Score may only be 3-3 but plenty of good honest footy going on out there.

Good game in 2nd half, Hawk Eyes put their foot down a bit. Have to say like Flanders and Mikaele Tuu, couple of good young un's!

That Auckland #8 carries like a Sotutu clone, down to the one-handed carries and everything.

Somehow it seems appropriate that Mako are getting gutted & filleted at a Park (temporarily) named for a Fish & Chip shop. The fact said F&C shop is in Kaikoura is like salt in the wound & a squeeze of lemon juice in the eye.

C'mon Whetton Jr. Pin those ears back! It's only a first-five. Just Lomu the little fella outta the way!

Whetton Super Rugby heading downstairs to check on Whetton Jr. No sign of mum, hopefully she's not watching this on tv as it doesn't look good.

Edit: big thumbs up as he goes off & he's talking so hopefully not quite as bad as it first looked.

Josh Ioane & Vilimoni Koroi partied a little too heartily last Sunday & have been stood down for tonight's match v Northland.

Other than the Battle of the Bridge & Manawatu's Shield Challenge there's not a lot in the way of must-watch footy for the neutral viewer this weekend.

Dan54's future home team retain the Shield:

Battle of the Bridge now on but can't help feeling there's a regression going on: 2018 Harbour by 30+, 2019 daw, 2020 Aucks by plenty if last week's performance v Mako is anything to go by.
