I remember him being benched for the 1976 Ireland Test & coming on when Lyn Davis got injured (no tactical subs back then & an independent doctor had to declare you unfit to conyinue). Athletic Park erupted as he came on & the Millard Stand was shaking such was the general disgust that the great man had been relegated in favour of his long-time understudy.
