NZ missing eight players to injury plus young Koroi was pretty much only on loan from Otago & has gone back to XV's so there's three newbies in our squad for Paris (last three in list):

DJ Forbes (Counties Manukau, c), Sam Dickson (Canterbury), Trael Joass (Tasman), Tim Mikkelson (Waikato), Sione Molia (Counties Manukau), Regan Ware (Bay of Plenty), Lewis Ormond (Taranaki), Tone Ng Shiu (Tasman), Sherwin Stowers (Counties Manukau), Joe Webber (Bay of Plenty), Rocky Khan (Auckland), Jamie Booth (Manawatu), Fa'asiu Fuatai (Otago), Jesse Houston (Canterbury)

Comparing the current Aussie 7s team to the last team that won a series event in 2012, that the strength of the team hasn't improved like expected with the new pathway of an olympic sport. We're not attracting better athletes or high profile players (excluding Henry Speight last year)

2012 Australian Team
Damon Anderson
Thomas English
Allan Fa’alava’au
Gregory Jeloudev
Ed Jenkins
Matt Lucas
Sean McMahon
Jesse Parahi
Jordan Tuapou
Shannon Walker
Daniel Yakopo

We're also going through a substantial rebuild after a substantial amount of the squad moved on after the Olympics.

I think some of the current young players coming through are good and getting Lewis Holland back from injury next year would make a huge difference to this team.

If we could trot out a team this year of:

Jenkins
Parahi
Anderson
Lucas
Holland
Hutchison
Porch

Stannard
Malouf
Myers
McNamara
Kennewell

We'd probably go pretty well.

Hopefully Hutchison is the only key player that moves on after this season.

Could have been a good period for the Aussies back then. Injuries, good players moving on from other teams, some teams weaker etc. All helps your team to do well. South Africa is not as strong at the moment as they once were and our Aussies girls have good competition with Canada and NZ. Canada beat them 33 /0 last semi.

Amazing given their is a player signing moratorium
Read somewhere yesterday, I think in the Australian, there are a few contracts that are signed but still need an ARU endorsement to finalise them.

I'm not making this up: Scotland 24-0 Fiji.

WTF did the Scots put in their Bovril this weekend & where can I score some?

Also Australia 28-19 Japan so through to the Challenge Trophy SF where they'll play Wales.
