yea thanks mate just my son was down there at the game and he told me that.Nope. He didn't get knocked out.
yea dennis not a bad shout mate, got some good ideas coming out of you. With all the talk of Rugby league and players going there rather than union, what are some ideas on keeping more players in the great game of rugby union rather than nuturing player just to hand them off to NRL teams once they graduate.
Think it would be best to just take a break JJ, for your own sakeOBG, your schoolboy dribble is ruining the forum. Yeah you might be getting a couple cheap laughs from you and your schoolmates, but when you step outside into the real world you'll quickly find hiding behind your screen wont get you very far. Be better.

Mate personally i think there needs to be a Super Rugby AU competition that isnt playing against the NZ teams. Either you keep the 4 teams playing as they are and start up a whole other compeition that plays under them as the League has "feader teams" this way their is more oppurtunity to play or to take the 4 teams out and add more teams around them and play in their own comp. Look this wont fix it straight away and I know that but there needs to be more oppurtunities to play Rugby in Australia at a top level. Hard to compete with 16 Australian based NRL teams.yea dennis not a bad shout mate, got some good ideas coming out of you.

I think it comes down to the recruitment of teams in the Capital City Comps such Hospital Cup and the Shute Shield. Unfortunately if these young players are looking for where they go next in a Super Rugby Team, there are only four of these in Australia, compared to 17 NRL sides, soon to be 19. There are not enough "spots" available in the national rugby teams. It is the club sides that need to recruit and nurture these guys, but this has to come with support. With all the talk of Rugby league and players going there rather than union, what are some ideas on keeping more players in the great game of rugby union rather than nuturing player just to hand them off to NRL teams once they graduate.
I once got a lecture about getting cheap laughs. It did not go down well.Jackal Julie. enough is enough. The only dribble is your useless and unwanted comments. If the 'cheap laughs' is majority of the current forum that clearly dislike you then I would keep my mouth shut. Don't make me take this out into the real world. hehe .

I agree WLF, there simply isnt enough spots to keep all these great players. What would your thoughts be on making a nation wide tornament where sides from Hospital Cup and Shute Shield play against each other. Would this help encourage more to stay perhaps.I think it comes down to the recruitment of teams in the Capital City Comps such Hospital Cup and the Shute Shield. Pretty good list. Mine starts with Wally Lewis, and also includes Elton Flatley and Chris Feauai-Sautia. Lynagh, Cooper to round it out. Honourable mentions to O'Connor and Mat Rogers.1. Kalyn Ponga (ACGS) - his highlight reel speaks for itself. He is without a doubt the best player GPS has ever seen.
2. Micheal Lynagh (GT) - For the younger generation, Lynagh was a player with the most sublime handling skills, coupled with a precision kicking game, acceleration and a perfect boot lace tackling technique. And he also kicked goals. He had vision and was ice cool under pressure, as emphasised when he called the last minute, winning backline play in the 1991 World Cup quarter final to prevent the upset of the century after Ireland had led the Wallabies. That was Michael Lynagh. He was simply the best.
3. Quade Cooper (ACGS) - One of the most skillful footballers of all time, he is a walking highlight reel and was part of a fantastic team with Pocock in 2007
4. James O'Connor (NC) - Imagine playing wallabies a year after graduating from school. Amazing feat for an amazing player.
5. Harry Wilson (GT) - Robust backrower who rose quickly post school into the Queensland and Australian systems. Originally a NSW country kid, Terrace’s first sporting love at Terrace was cricket. Indeed he was a batsman capable of plundering quick runs, but now uses his power game in rugby.
HM:
Fraser Mc'Reight (BGS) - Is the best flanker in the world at the moment if we are counting Ardie Savea as an 8. He is a wonderful person and player.
100% but then it comes down to coin doesn't it, and being able to afford it. Rugby just doesn't have the resources to do this at the moment. When it comes down to it, the players want to play sport for a living. Who wouldn't?? I know of quite a few that have gone to League, but if had the opportunity would have much preferred to stay with Union.I agree WLF, there simply isnt enough spots to keep all these great players. Hey Jackal Jules, just wondering how the boys went, I was eager to get to the games but due to unforeseen circumstances I couldn't.Keen to see how some of the teams go in this weather. With some schools heavily reliant on their backlines, their foward pack will really need to step up this weekend.

Absolutely spot on, D.B.Dennis, I’ll be honest mate, your argument doesn’t really stack up. Grammar have been near the bottom of the GPS for years now, and yet DC haven’t managed to beat them. Now that BGS are finally building some form and actually improving, to say DC beat them at “full strength” doesn’t really add up, especially when you dig into how the game was decided.
From what I heard, the match came down to a bad intercept and a conversion attempt at the end, in a trial. And to be honest, taking the kick to win in a trial just feels off. Trials are meant to be about testing combinations, rotating players, and prepping for the season. Not treating it like a grand final. If you’re celebrating a win off a flukey intercept and a pressure kick in a practice game, it says more about mindset than ability.
Elijah may have been playing, sure, but this isn’t tennis. You win games with 15, not one.
All respect to the boys involved, but let’s keep the takes grounded.
Cheers, D.B
TB,Absolutely spot on, D.B.
The way you’ve broken it down is exactly how it should be looked at. Grammar haven’t exactly been a top contender in recent years, so hanging a “statement win” on a narrow trial result against them doesn’t really hold weight.
Also completely agree with you on the trial mindset. Taking the conversion to win in a friendly? That’s not what trials are for. It’s about building chemistry, trying out options, and getting systems right — not chasing glory.
And look, the Nudgee trial scores from the weekend speak volumes.
Good on you for keeping it grounded.
Cheers,
T.B
Job for CyclopathNo Room for this in the forum mate, stop the dribble
as you should, as irrelevant to gps season it may seem seeing the results against teams who are "irrelevant" looks to be humblingOh i love the annual Downlands in the GPS conversation in this fourm.
D.B
What are your thought on it Donald, persoanlly i think this comp has been going to long to add Downlands into it now. However would be interesting to see how it would hold up with teams not having a bye roundOh i love the annual Downlands in the GPS conversation in this fourm.
D.B
Who's travelling up the hill this year to see the O'Callaghan Cup (TGS VS Downlands)? Best thing in Toowoomba since the second range crossing.Downlands chat needs to stay out of this GPS forum. They are irrelevant. I don't want to be opening the chat to read some downlands news.
Cheers,
D.F
