What was the go with the previously undefeated Brothers reserve grade side going down to Wests 7-22 on the weekend?
Current 2nd grade table 4th Souths 46 points(Rnd 18 v Bond) and 5th Wests 44 (v Snbk).
There will be some clubs (Bros, Easts & GPS) cheering for Souths this weekend to avoid Wests in the finals.

They already secured the minor premiership so rested a number of players including their captain and a few other key positions.
Sounds like most of their top guys will play the last round against Easts to keep their match fitness.
Brothers were not resting players. West just outplayed them. In saying that better to have a loss now then in the finals.

This aged well... Going into finals as minor prems - and only two losses - is about as good a prep as you could hope for. Of course, there is still
Souths to play this weekend....but one can pretty much, with evidence in support - call Bond scintillating, agile, diverse - and able to soak up pressure.

A shame if true about Quade. Coaching staff changeover with Garrick at the helm seems to be working well at the club.

He’s been playing 2nds, was rested last weekend (despite what some other poster believes).
A fair chance he could end up playing 1sts again though if Brothers lose Flook and Creighton to Aussie A squad.

A scan of the players shows that development, depth, relationships, retention and partnerships - rather than recruitment - appear to be the formula for Bond in 2023. The ability to play well and nab unlikely wins when key players were on Super Rugby duty shows that development and depth figure strongly. The partnership with Fijian Drua has definitely had an impact. Many players 'cold-called' Bond in the off-season for the opportunity to play for them. Sooaemalelagi was one of those players (originally pencilled in for Sunnybank, but struck up a friendship with some Bond boys) The return to Bond by Stowers 'because I want to play footie with my mates' also speaks volumes of the culture fostered there. Incidentally, Canham's appearance at Bond stems from a friendship between him and Stowers when both played for Shute Shield club, Eastwood, in 2021. The club has developed a sense of uncommon comaraderie that is unique. This is best typified by Tyler Campbell. He spent the better part of two seasons recovering from injury - but turning up to every training session and every game to support the team until such a time as he could take the field - and we all know what his onfield effect has been. Campbell's story alone is one to marvel over in 2023. The depth of talent and passion at this club is unique - as is its playing style. But is this enough to take them all the way in 2023? Time will tell.

smells a bit like Wests. Strong 1st grade team but doesn't filter down the grades.
I thought Aust A was not being picked until after the finals.

The 3rd tier model Waugh is proposing is going to be a clusterfuck for any clubs outside Brisbane and Sydney
Bring back the NRC so cashed up universities like Bond etc just can’t throw money at a premiership

Bond were dominated by GPS in the set piece and outplayed in general play for the last 60 mins. Also very lucky the Ref called the game to an end instead of penalising the unbound offside Bond player who interfered with the half back causing the knock on. Given the closeness to the line and the pressure Bond were under most Refs would have not only penalised but also yellow carded for cynical play. Pity the Ref missed it as it would likely have taken the competition for Minor Premiers and for 4th place in the four into the final round, as GPS appeared to be on the cusp of scoring. Anyway, the game is done and dusted but the point being that Bond are very beatable by any of the other three teams in the top four. Brothers are on the rise at the right end of season and their match against East this weekend will be a cracker. Wests need to turn their form around but on their day will also be a huge threat. Assuming Wests account for Sunnybank, the second spot in the major semi to play Bond is wide open.
