You would think with a a RWC coming up, and the need for teams to train at suitable facilities The University of QLD would be wanting to get around UQ Rugby despite any differences they may have with the rugby club as its a fantastic opportunity to promote the University.
Incredible business opportunities too with successful folk like Mark Loane, Jeff Miller, Greg Martin, Nathan Sharpe, Steve Moore who appear to still be proud of their links to both the club and the university.

That's the rub; the fields, running track, residential living, and weight rooms belong to the university not the rugby club (not counting the small weight room under the clubhouse). The only thing the rugby club has control over is the clubhouse itself.

It would be nice but ultimately the university doesn't need to involve the rugby club to sell itself as a home base for the RWC.

The only thing that might change that is if the shiny new clubhouse is completed before the RWC.

How does the UQ setup compared to the Bond rugby club?

always good come recruitment time having the prestige of Bond campus or the iconic sandstone building at st Lucia to woo recruits

but a rugby club dictated by a college campus and catering for other sports really limits the ancillary revenue opportunities that might present themselves

I think it would be detrimental for UQ to leave the campus and say become Taylor bridge rugby red heavies!

Other things in play too. Kings College offer rugby scholarships and I think the player has to play for UQ. There are others scholarships offered through UQ that require the student to represent the University and the rugby club covers that.

They will never leave the campus. The colleges alone are to much of a resource for them.

One advantage UQ will always have over Bond is location.

Looking through the lens of the aspiring player both head coaches are exceptionally good. For the student / player both Universities provide a high quality education, both have excellent facilities, I think Bond Rugby has a better club house etc now, but with UQ putting in the new clubhouse at the end of this season that will equal that out if not exceed. On history, I think UQ has a greater history to rely upon and a broader network off the park.

So if you were a Reds player, or in the Academy and you want to play your rugby at Bond, be prepared to spend some time in the car or club bus up and down the M1. If you were a UQ player Reds player, Ballymore would likely be a much closer prospect.

I believe Kings College just won the Open Comp at Byron Bay Sevens as well, which is very impressive.

Ultimately @Elwee's Loo and @Jets both have it right. Being in Brisbane proper and an easy walk from the colleges and university is a built in advantage to UQ Rugby that a lot of other clubs can't replicate.

There was a hangover post-Heeno, but there's a lot of optimism with the new clubhouse and management coming in.

Interestingly enough, the university is also constructing a massive new fitness centre by the pool that should be complete by 2027. I suspect the RWC and Olympics are playing a role in the timing.
