I spent a fun few hours at Rebels HQ today filming a 2015 recruitment promo with Mitch Inman, Adam Freier and Pete Fairbairn.

Should I be concerned that Adam asked Mitch to think of me as Tom Brady from the Patriots to get his enthusiasm ramped up? :D

Great to see all the boys during the team lunch, although I shudder to think what the piggie's combined daily food bill looks like!

How long before you finish post production on the vid? Always love a laugh. The rising/Melb uni one was worth a chuckle.

Pete Fairbairn was the writer/producer/director and Adam was the cameraman. Mitch and I were the talent, although I use that word very loosely!

Don't know the timeframe to release. It shouldn't be long though.

Edit: I better clarify before some smart arse says it - it was not a porno

Good to see the Rebels are playing a trial at Harlequins Rugby Club v Highlanders on Thursday 5th February. Really engaging with local rugby community.

It's good, but should have really been at Box Hill.

1. Quins is a nightmare for parking
2. BH is better set up with the big hill for watching rugby

Only thing is they don't have lights on ground 1. But in Feb day light won't be a big issue.

Quins have the better pitch. BH down side is the mound in the middle of the ground, otherwise you are correct.

Why don't they play at Unicorns? Plenty of revenue for the local council through parking fines and a nice synthetic cricket pitch in the middle of the ground.

Box Hill needs some sheep or a lawnmower.
The playing surface at Quins is the best of all the local clubs.

For the best mud in town try the Maroondah (Croydon when I was there) club. Sticky, smelly and thick - not what you want anything to be, let alone a rugby pitch.

True. They re-grassed it a few years ago, but did not put any drainage in. It was like playing on a skin on a custard. The black muck covered by a layer of couch grass.

So the big announcement was the launch of the forever on union foundation. Looks to be focused on fundraising and investment of grassroots rugby in Victoria. I haven't read all the fine print yet, so won't profess to be an expert.

Thoughts GAGR?

I don’t really see what the fuss it to be honest. They still have to attract the money after all.

Some of the Sydney Shute Shield Clubs have been very successfully in raising a pot of money via a Foundation – whether it was through the sale of licenced club (Randwick, Norths), wealthy and passionate ex-players and wider business network ( Sydney Uni, Manly) or other clubs trying to sock away whatever they can.
I’m a massive believer in a foundation, as if-and-when the handouts from the ARU dry up, which is happening presently until the next multi-billion dollar TV deal comes along, an annual income stream for the rest of life’s existence can ‘underwrite’ key expenses of the club. If managed correctly, it can be a very valuable asset to a club and much more than a pokie palace as Wests Tigers in the NRL are finding out.

The main negative with a Foundation is that you need to raise a truckload of cash to generate meaningful returns. The investment objective of all Foundations should be the preservation of capital, and with cash and Term Deposit rates around the 3-4 mark, even a nice chunk of cash such as $1 million, will only generate an income stream of $35k unless you go up the risk curve which then threatens the capital.
The Rebs will need to generate a foundation of $5 -$10 over the years if they want a meaningful contribution to their operations.
I’ll donate a little bit and its a nice token reminder that the tax man gives me half of it back at the end of the year.

That's only assuming that you raise money once and then just rely on passive income from investments after that.

A foundation set up for a sporting team shouldn't plan to exist forever based solely on the income generated each year. I don't know what sort of plan you'd be making, but given the Rebels are only four years old, a 20-30 year horizon for a foundation would be a very long period of time.

Love to see what Sean can do if given a crack. I reckon there is some talent in that kid!

PAE would have been a good one to tour, but I suspect his time is coming and he needs more S15 game time first.
