^^^^^^Based on schoolboy form,not men's footy.

He's the second best 10 at his SS club by a fair margin.

Why has he been starting then? I saw him start v the Wicks and whilst I thought Deegan played better, the Wicks entire backline offered more in that game and the backrow were better.

Oh well, drop a note and vid highlights reel re that better SS 10 to MC and maybe he'll change his mind.

MC must see something good in the young bloke.
I think MC has literally lost the plot.
Mason is not considered good enough to sit on the Tahs bench.
And he is given the express pass to a Gold jumper?
Are our playing stocks that low?

ILTW - I like what Ive seen of Mason (and Deegan). Given how the Tahs have played over the last three seasons not being selected is probably a bigger qualification than actually being chosen. Also I'd rather have him playing Shute and developing than sitting on the bench and getting a couple of minutes if that behind Foley and stagnating.

My comment was about Mason starting for Easts though as you said he wasn't starting for his Shute club. He certainly started the Round 5 game that was televised.

Haven't been watching SS. The better 10? I thought maybe Horwitz but asfaik he has been in the Tahs for some time now. All the same, Horwitz has a lot more experience than Mason, and would be expected to be a better player at this stage of their careers.

Gnostic,You misunderstood.
I said the Easts local boy (Archie King), is significantly better.
He is playing out of position to accomodate the pro player.

Oh well, if he's being that out-shone by local NSW SS players, I can only hope he returns suitably humbled and quickly to QLD.

Looking to 2018-9 we need more back up to dear ol' QC (Quade Cooper), and fast.

From what I've seen I would have put Mason far ahead of King, and based on the match up against the Wicks, Deegan outplayed them both.

Better he regularly sit on the bench for Reds, than only in emergencies for the Tahs.

their salary cap is a tad higher too.

Reg, Toulon no doubt have funds to throw around. But are you saying that in the multiple international searches we approached this international marketplace with an insubstantial offer? Obvious questions there, (starting with an outraged "what the actual f") but without digging into it what about the funds they DID have.

During the last hunt we had additional funds for-
Cooper
Moore
Smith
Houston
Douglas (though I might have the year wrong)
Higgenbotham

Now I do quite like that list of additionals, especially those guys who have at least half-way worked (only confused with Housten); but you cant see a way here that funds might have been reallocated to assist the search?

Right now, I'd say a pro rugby team should adjust its priorities (in order) to:
HC
S&C
THP
10
LHP
Defense and attack staff
9

It's irrelevent to your starting notion anyway. Its not about whether Mack is appropriate to the Gold, it is additional evidence that another rugby specialist rates him so much higher than Jake. But the rugby nous in Qld didnt.

Sometimes the evidence does build over time, we however, really had enough to guage Jake. Both assessments cant be right.

BTW, whatever the rights and wrongs, all the very best to a local bloke with an amazing opportunity.

Mack, grab that opportunity by the throat and throttle the living shite out of it!

Gees Jake McI gets a tough going over on here. I watched him the other week as the Brethren got a thumping at Sunnybank and apart from an early mistake he ran the game and stood out.
Is it possibly that the Reds coaching team have something to do with the drop in his ability, the way he visualises the plays unfold, his personal confidence, the suitability of playing partners inside and out? I don't have much history here in QLD but I have seen many a great prospected coached into an old boot.
From memory QC (Quade Cooper) was at his best (and I never saw as much as locals) when Genia kept the fringe and guard defence honest in fear of him sniping and Digby held the first post defender hanging on the inside of QC (Quade Cooper). These two acts gave QC (Quade Cooper) time, inside options and fewer defenders to deal with.
Is, has, was Jake McI given the same luxury?
Frisby isn't genia just like Jake isn't QC (Quade Cooper) but I bet Jake would be a lot better with Genia inside him than QC (Quade Cooper) has been with Frisby.

Wouldn't think too much into Mack as a development player. Both Perese and Kellaway were development last year and they are both aloooonggg way from being wallabies. Years. Post WC at best.
