New coach, new ideas and new thoughts on players. There’s gonna be a lot of culling for the priority of blooding

If you were picking a 34 man squad, which of these players would you leave out?

Props: Sio, Ala'alatoa, Tupou, Slipper
Hooker: Uelese, Fainga'a
Lock: Simmons, Salakai-Loto
Backrow: Hooper, Naisarani, Dempsey
Halfback: White
Fly half: To'omua, O'Connor
Centres: Kuridrani, Petaia
Back three: Koroibete, Hodge, Haylett-Petty

and a couple of close calls in White and DHP

Given our backrow options, frankly, Dempsey goes straight in the bin. Same with Hodge and centre/wing options. DHP has been underwhelming and is crocked but limited options outside Banks.

I would have left out Simmons previously but with all the departures surely he's now a strong chance of being in the 23.

I agree with the others although Uelese probably still makes it into a squad I'd guess.

I'd have thought DHP and Banks are fighting it out for fullback but both will definitely be in the squad.

White obviously has no form to back his claim but surely he gets selected. There's not a lot of options.

I guess the question stands, do we totally right off this year and use it as an excuse to blood everyone left right and centre. Go all out and anyone that won't be here in 1-2 years time gets dropped

Bit radical but not without merit

Pick your best team. There are going to be a whole heap of new players in the squad and 23 regardless of selection policy.

If you pick someone who isn't the best now what makes them likely to be the best in a couple of year's time?

Hodge deserves the drop, he’s been very underwhelming. Uelese has been superb (minus his throwing in the first game). Take away Fainga'a’s ability to latch onto the back of a driving maul I think he’s been easily the pick of the hookers around the park and is an absolute beast in the scrum. Here is abit from an article yesterday

~ But it’s Uelese’s work around the park that has been particularly impressive; he’s made two breakdown pilfers and has had nine effective ruck involvements — equal fifth in the comp — while his work in the scrum has been exemplary, forcing 10 penalties, second only to Taniela Tupou. ~

On the fullback from all have been very lack luster minus Maddocks who’s either hot or stone cold.

Anyway well off topic

Best team for every test. No exceptions.

Pretty cool he gets to play with a backline of 4/6 incumbent Wallabies

Outside of Marika, the other three have been pretty sub par in wallaby colours. They were all present for the failure of the Rebels 2019 Super Rugby campaign. So I don't know if going off their historical records works in their favour.

Just leave The Reds be, let’s us and The Brumbies fix Australian rugby.

Everyone else is just in the way, and diluting our programs.

Waratahs deserve to be exactly where they are.

Force have been treated poorly, so it’s understandable - but The Rebels have no place in Australian rugby.

No rugby culture, no club comp of any repute, no fans. The place is just not where we should be putting money.

BPA > Uelese.

Throwing line outs is pretty important no matter how much Cheika et all don’t care about them.

Folau is a fantastic hooker and I look forward to seeing him bed down that spot. Was never a fan of Latu, and think Uelese is largely a myth as well. I can’t stand that Mafi can’t throw.

BPA does most things well.

I thought Latu was one of our best players at the WC and threw well, scrummaged well and was strong over the ball. He has an aggression and edge to his game BPA and FF (Folau Fainga'a) lack.

The only thing he fucked up was goading Sinckler into the best game of his career.

Agree Uelese is a myth.

I don't rate Uelese that highly either but surely hooker is totally open after Fainga'a and Uelese is as likely as anyone to make it.

Fainga'a, BPA and Uelese would be the most likely 3 in my view.

You do realise the reds and Brumbies are both currently holding the worst lineout percentages in the comp.

Waratahs - 90%
Rebels - 84%
Force - 81%
Brums - 80%
Reds - 72%
