Rugby Championship 2025 (non-Aus matches)

Vaai can clap as much as he likes if he's going to play that well.

Perhaps finally found a 6 in Parker. He was quite sensational.

An AB loose forward trio with actual balance. It's been a while.

The backline is still a total mess. Hopefully Narawa isn't hurt too bad.

Tupaea shows the likes of ALB and Havili how to actually add impact off of the bench.

Ruck pressure was excellent.

Defended the Garden. Beat the Boks for the first time in a while. Chuffed.

What backline would you put in?
obvious with the 9s to come back
Is McKenzie a better 15 or is it time to bring Love in or even Jordie Barrett back to 15?
I think think Jordan is great on the wing and reiko done

centres is hard as Jordie isn’t bad but his best position I bellieve is still 15 - unless you move him to 13 to assist distribution out wider
And maybe timoci at 12 for the typical yardage game

the pack is very solid though and with more game time I only bellieve sititi and Parker will keep improving

Watched the match in a virtual fugue of petrified mental torpor but it felt like Vaai made a real mess of the bok lineout ball

Parker might be The One. Got that Liam Squire build without being a fake tough guy. Solid tackling job

Hope Sami T has reassumed his mantle as the main man over Nothingburger Codie T

Thank Christ for that 14 pt start or they would have been run the fuck down. Ref did a top job of calling all the clumsy bok obstructors.

Tense stuff. Losing what should've been the final breakdown was terrible execution, however.

Taukei’aho was a big improvement over the ghost of Codie Taylor. I recall Lomax's scrummaging being average during Super Rugby so that needs to be sorted, possibly through selection adjustments. i.e., pair Williams + Newell and de Groot + Lomax/Tosi.

Still not sure what Kirifi brings. I get he's more of a stopgap until Lakai is available, but surely a proven performer like Papali'i would bring more impact.

Christie did well, all things considered. But the inevitable Grant Williams vs. Cam Roigard meeting will be an absolute box kicking shootout.

Hopefully Narawa is available next week as he did more in his five minutes than Reece has done the last however many years. Probably looking at a back three of McKenzie at fullback, Jordan on one wing, with Narawa/Clarke/Rieko on the other.

Lets see how long Wayne Smith hangs around for.

Pretty embarrassing performance for RSA. Le Roux falling over Narawa, Marx falling off Jordan, random midfield lineout going to shit again, being pushed off their own ball in midfield when they were trying to save the game and half their pack was just standing their watching it happen for the first couple of seconds.

Lose the match and that moment would be forensically exhumed in excruciating detail

The speed of Preston when he came on - in all facets of play - was kind of jarring after you'd been accustomed to The Waltzing Ranga

Jordie Barrett? If Rieko was stifling the backline then wft is Jordie doing to it. There is absolutely nothing happening there. It's crying out for a perfectly-matched Higgins Proctor tenure.

Move Jordie to fullback? Despite being 6"12 he is a clanking great lottery under the high ball. His much vaunted epic "big boot"? Yeah, unsighted. Don't think I've ever seen him kick a spiral.

Backline wise I would look to get Caleb Clarke into the 11 shirt and Ruben Love into the 23. I would also like to see Leicester given a chance at some point - perhaps at 13 in place of Proctor.

One positive for the backs is Quinn Tupaea - he's an excellent bench impact player. Easy to forget it was his tackle that jolted the ball loose to clinch the victory in the first test of the year. He put on an enormous shot on Pieter Steph Du Toit last night on the goal line (in addition to the try).

Taylor is on the 12-day concussion protocol stand-down, replacement to be named before they relocate to Wellington. Note that Aumua was out injured yesterday so Bell possibly next on the depth chart.

Narawa "highly unlikely" to be available due to last night's rib injury.

The official All Blacks tiktok channel posted a ridiculously wholesome clip of Kriel giving Savea a gift after their match and congratulating him on his 100th cap.

In the background, Savea's daughter could be heard shouting "Uncle Siya!!" as she ran and leapt into Kolisi's arms. Made my allergies play up something fierce.

That's some wholesome shit right there. Rugby is a pretty good game.

I thought the Bokke looked a bit pedestrian yesterday, especially in attack. There wasn't a lot being done to unlock that AB defence and they even got outmuscled at the breakdown several times. Maybe they are getting getting old.
