Rugby Championship 2025 : South Africa v Australia Round 2

I agree with what a couple of others have said in that he has played very little footy in the past 12 months or so and needs to prove himself again and throwing him into the fire again the AB's and the Puma's would not be a wise move. We have depth in his position at the moment with Wilson, Valetini, Gleeson, Hooper, NCDC etc. Cale will need to get some match fitness and Super Rugby Aus would be a fantastic place to do it. I hope he 'shoots the lights out' there and reminds everyone of his potential.
The thread of this discussion started with a comment by @Blue about depth at 6 and 8 going into the RWC27. "Especially another real 8. Back row attrittion is always an issue. Going into 27 you need to know who is third in line at 6 and 8. Not a stop gap guy."

Hence my post that you refer to contained the observation that Cale would need a big year in SR26. The discussion was not about now, or the remainder of TRC 25 when it is widely known that Cale will miss the whole of this year's comp.

JAS should kick the goals. He had a high percentage in league. I’m sure he could easily hone his range and distance as kicking in union has more variables than in league

Major Tom

Not sure about that. He was selected for his kicking and goal kicking v Lions and didn't come up trumps. As a 'pure' 10 he is just a shoveler. Anyway, I'm not Joe, he rates him for some reason.
Yoda, I assume you're talking about Lynagh as per usual. I don't how it's difficult to realise that he's had 5 games (started 3) at test level, which is not really a big enough sample size to work out if he can kick straight at this level. He missed 6 kicks in total at Super Rugby. Law of averages suggests that he'll turn this around pretty quickly.

The Coach makes the decisions.
Not on the pitch in the heat of battle.

You could clearly see discussion between Frazer, JOC (James O'Connor) and Skelton over the first two decisions to forsake the 3 points. The commentary team made a point of it during the game and the wrap up pundits discussed at the conclusion of the game.
To put the blame squarely on Mcreight is churlish.
I think I remember Joe saying that he leaves these decisions with the players.

Yoda is obsessed with Tom.

I thought Kwagga's rag dolling of White was against the spirit of the game. Pretty predictable outcome.

Also, they're enver beating the allegations:

For sure it’s not what rugby contact is about. Used to happen constantly in Aussie Rules, especially in the teen comps that I played in (because I was doing it a lot) but I don’t think I have ever seen anything like that sling tackle in Rugby where there is a pretty well understood yet unspoken honour system to contact.

I really wonder if Doleman was thinking that law 9.18 was not infringed (lifting and dropping on head) that it was all good but law 9.11 is the general catch all about not placing another player in danger. I don’t think he’s been sanctioned so it appears World Rugby agree with him. Never want to be on the same side of an argument as Doleman.

World Rugby don't have much say on these things.

All we know is the independent Citing Commissioner didn't believe the incident reached the red card threshold

It’s odd but not just one offs. There are multiple cases in the one game where SA tacklers are trying to cause bodily harm to the player with the ball. I mean head injuries or serious leg injuries. There is no place in the game for it some say. Apparently there is?
