What did everyone think of Barnes on sat.
I thought he was OK around the field, but his rucks and mauls were a lottery. Last week we had clear and consistent policing of the breakdown and after 10 minutes the teams were mostly complying. Sat night was a shemozzle.

That was a fantastic display of refereeing. Breakdown was consistent and fair. The lineout throw didn't go 5 metres, that was the major fault. By far the best refereeing in this Tri Nations, and he is by far and away the best ref in the world.

Last week, I wouldnt have said that the ref was good, but he was consistent. This week, he was good AND consistent

Barnes was good. I'm always happy to see him on the sheet to ref a wallabies game, as by and large he is very consistent and not pedantic.

I concur.

Last week was consistent and bad. The speed of the game meant alot of loose rucks.

I think the advantage with Barnes was he warned player before penalizing. He was wrong on occasion. But the key is they would get clear direction as to what he ruled and why.

I thought he excellent. The best ref we've had this year. First rate communication and game management.

He was detter than Joubert and Kaplan, but then again any grannie from your nearest nursing home would be able to adjudicate the rules of rugby better than those two arse clowns.

From memory Barnes made the following bloopers: Penalising Slipper on our attacking scrum was shite. There were two high shots from Pietersen that went unpunished. A knock-on late in the 2nd half - Cooper passing to Berrick was another shocker. Pocock clearly got away with one or two McCaws. And even the final penalty was rough on the Boks.

I'm prepared to live with that amount and nature of errors from a ref in a helter-skelter 3N test. Barnes is to be commended for his lack of pedantry and good communication - 3 and a half stars.

I doubt that there is a more difficult refereeing job than a tri-nations test. The pace is just so quick and the combat so intense. I thought he had a reasonable game, but certainly not faultless. His most positive impact was to prevent teams closing out games by collapsing on ruck after ruck, something the AB's and SB's turned into an art form a couple of years ago. 7-8 out of ten for mine.

Barnes is a kak ref and have this typical teacher like attetude towards the players. Thats one huge problem with most NH refs. Wish they can understand that they aint the most important player on the field. That 5 metre pass was a totally fokkop to say the least and he have a habit of making this kind of blunders. Did the same thing in WC 2007 with that forward pass in the All Blacks quater against France.

I like the Pommie refs I think they're pretty relaxed & don't feel they need to stamp their authority on the players, Barnes is similar to Chris White & he's my favorite ref of all time.

I like Barnes I feel he hit his peak in 2007 & has never looked back.

The 5m call was the touchie's fault, not Barnes. He was standing at the back of the lineout so couldn't see what was happening at the front. It wasn't a great call, but neither was penalising Sharpe for attacking Matfield in the air a few minutes before. It all was about even in the end, as it usually tends to be.

Haven't you watched Scarfmans video? :p

I thought it was an ok game. Some great tries from the Wallabies but Matfields chip chase taking the cake.

Some truly awful defence from the boks. They need to take a leaf out of the Stormers book who leaked bugger all points this season.

Thought Beale could have been binned at the 4 minute mark when he purposely slowed down the ball when the boks were only 5m out. Also does Pocock ever support his own weight when trying to steal the ball....

Looking forward to this weekends game.

Barbs to be honest I want neutral SH refs for the Tri Nations. Its oppertunities going north for our SH stock. Just wish Aus and NZ can get top ones on that rankings. It havent helped us one bit having SH refs in the S14 and have to adabt to the NH ones.

PdV has come out today and said there is nothing wrong with the Bok's defense and it's "all systems go" for the World Cup.

Also looks like his job is safe as there will be no real inquiry.

Disagree mate, I think Barnes is the best ref about, the lineout call was the linesman's, he kept the rucks free and clean and requires players to stay on their feet.

No ref is perfect but he does very well as he is at least generally consistent and fair

Well, praise the scarf and pass the beers - that's one less opponent to worry about next year:eek:

We seem to be specialising in keeping incompetents in place at the moment, having saved Martin Johnson this year and PdV this time. If the boks had been 0-6 you would have to think he might have been in danger. Hope the long term plan pays off...
