only signed until the end of yr 12 (2026) he will head back to QldBut he has a deal with Roosters? History tells me they don’t dish out school tuitions then let them walk back to union.
Also, since he has been at Scots for almost a year, why is this hitting the news now?
Hope so! With Lemoto gone, Agapetos will be the perfect #8 for Scots.Petos will commit long term to Rugby, the family is a rugby family. His older brother as just recieved a rugby scholarship to attend college in the USA
Yes, this comment is mentioning and promoting scholarships within the AAGPS thread.Putting this comment in here as it was deleted from the regular GPS thread. I’m assuming because of the “S” word.
I was involved in this discussion, I myself mentioned how the introduction of girls may be detrimental to the morale & culture of rugby. But I said this not as a result of scholarships, but the energy put into sport. In order to have a successful & fair co-ed operation, the school must put energy, effort & attention into girls and boys. This is a tricky thing even now, as schools have to be more ‘fair’ with attention to each sport, despite rugby having the largest following, culture, etc. I think it is unavoidable that the attention of the school community won’t be as concentrated on the boys rugby, this is the lowering of culture and morale. It is because of having to spread resources, and just about everything, that we may see an impact.Putting this comment in here as it was deleted from the regular GPS thread. I’m assuming because of the “S” word. It was in response to comments about a Newington introducing girls to the school, and having to increase more imports which is detrimental to morale, etc..
I’m sorry, but what exactly does letting girls into a school have to do with the strength of a rugby team? The idea that co-ed means weaker teams is just lazy thinking.
Let’s be real -GPS schools don’t dominate rugby because they naturally develop the best players. They dominate because they bring in top-tier talent on scholarships. Yes, those imports often take spots that could’ve gone to local kids -but not all local kids cut it at that level. If you want a weaker comp, go for it. But if you want to watch the best schoolboy rugby on a Saturday -the kind that’s fast, physical, and full of future rep players- then this is the trade-off. The imports raise the standard. That’s just how it is.
I truly wish it was the case that scholarships went to regional and/or disadvantaged boys who are denied opportunities to attend quality schools.Long story short In my opinion, it raises the talent level and competition which not only promotes the gps but also gives opportunity’s to those boys that would not necessarily have the chance to attend these schools helping further their education and not only their sporting ability. They are also helpful in a way to RA in a way to keep boys in Rugby even though most scholarshiped boys are rugby league men through and through. Just my opinion on it.
Agreed. Countless names of boys who were already at St Augs or Oakhill who were then scholarshiped too other schools is a joke.I truly wish it was the case that scholarships went to regional and/or disadvantaged boys who are denied opportunities to attend quality schools.
But Newington, Barker, Knox and Kings have been picking off boys from ISA schools simply because their Age programs are weak and it's a quick fix. Offering scholarships to boys who are already at quality Private schools in Sydney is a lazy, soft approach - it simply robs Peter to pay Paul. If they want to be altruistic, offer means tested spots to indigenous/country boys for whom it could be a life changing opportunity. Now that would help RA identify hidden talent.
well i can confirm that even at u16 level country reps are still getting scholarship offers, the Qld schools are the best at it Ipswich Grammar, Toowoomba Grammar, Brisbane Boys College. There are a number of the country squads that have moved to these boarding schools since the teams were announced after that state championships, there are also a number of boys who were offered scholarships but turned them down to remain where they areA good way these scholarships are done positively is when they are disguised as boarding equity scholarships in year 7, often focused on country rep teams (ie CC, central west, etc) from the year before. Sure transparency is blurry, but these boys become part of the culture and spirit of the school at a young age and since they are picked at early stages, the school plays a major part in the development of the boy.
All this poaching stuff is just dog. ( I know a lot of it has a fair bit to do with league, but schools are still involved to an extent )
Parasites - shamelessly feeding off healthier and better formed hosts.Agreed. Countless names of boys who were already at St Augs or Oakhill who were then scholarshiped too other schools is a joke.
15? Stop talking absolute nonsense. You're making stuff up on a subject you have no idea about. Pump your brakesIt can raise talent levels when u have 2/3. When you have a team of 15 like new has the last couple years it clearly dosent
