Div 3 -
Beecroft vs Quinns - We have not had the best pre season and availability has been pretty poor. Beecroft had a good colts side last year and I think may get us. Beecroft by 12 in both grades.
Knox vs Old Iggies - Knox for a clean sweep. Old Iggies could only get 1 grade up for a trial. Knox comfortable 30 in 1st Grade.
Sydney Harbour vs Manly - Harbour for a clean sweep. Apparently Manly could not even get 1 grade up for a trial last week. Harbour comfortable at home by 15 in 1st Grade.

As i have indicated here several times I am hearing from work colleagues who are acorss some fo these clubs that the pre season numbers are terrfiying for many acorss all Div's.

Anyone have a lense on how Forest are tracking at the moment?

I heard they're OK - Colts numbers in rude health apparently. They're going up to Lapstone Saturday with 4 Grades + Colts listed as the game schedule.

Knox will win Div 3. They were good in Div 1 and thats with players dropping off every week. They will start winning and players will come out for a premiership.
This chat about Harbour is over the top - They cant win games in Div 3 scoring 12 and 13 points a game.
Interesting take re Knox. Looking back at last years Kentwell results they looked to really struggle, with only one win in the first round and a few forfeits toward the end of the season. Hopefully they can regroup down a couple of divisions

Div 3 Season Prediction

Clark Cup
1. Old Barker: Performed best of the teams that have move from div 2 beating all the teams now in div 3 by margins. Have a big solid pack and skilled backs.
2. Sydney Harbor: best of div 4 teams and had an impressive for and against, should have tougher oppositions hear but winning form is good form.
3. Manly Savers: Will be in the run for the finals, similar to Sydney Harbour and predicting them to be slighlty behind harbour as similar to last year. Injuries could easily see them switch with Harbour.
4. Beecroft: . Will be inconsistent they pushed some of the top teams last years for div 2, have talented albeit inconsistent backs prone to errors, wouldn't surprise me if they end up higher or lower than this spot.
5. Knox: The Wildcard of the division. Could well end up at winning the comp. Have put here as if they play on last years form I think they will at minimum bear Harlequins and Old Iggies.
6. Harlequins: Love a bit of set piece play and will enjoy dropping a divison, did well in division 4 a few years backs but have struggled to hit their straps in the higher divisions.
7. Old Iggies - Worst of the Div 2 from last year. Looks like a youngish side so could improve, but seem to lack a commanding pack of star backs.

Farrant Cup
1. Beecroft: Have a history of a second grade team similar in quality to their ones. If the ones don't look like making the finals I think they will be the team to take the tournament out, if not see them toping the comp before a loss in the GF.
2. Harlequins: Made finals in Div 2, this is a notable achievement and should carry them in good stead, think they could be the winners of the GF as they will likely be a one team club in August.
3/4 Savers/Harbour: Weren't as dominant in Div 4 as their respective 1st grades, but should do well with a similar team playing for consecutive years together.
5. Knox. Again unknown, if there ones are winning expect recruitment and player rentention will be good and they could end up topping the comp.
6. BOBS: will hold their own, but numbers will be their weakness, expecting them to fall off in the second half of the season as injuries affect their depth.
7. Old iggies. Face the same problems as their No 1 side.

Nicholson Cup
1. Knox. Did well in div 1 and have now dropped to div 3. Could blow away the comp, but colts talent varies year to year.
2 Beecroft: have made finals for the past few years in div 2 and div 3, see no reason it would change.
3/4 Savers/ harlequins: same kettle of fish with Shute shield clubs extras. Should do well but think they will struggle to win the comp playing away from their main club and lacking the odd stars that other clubs have that don't play shield colts.
5 iggies. Have had some good colts teams filter through wouldn't surprise if they make finals.
6. BOBs very average team last year, need recruitment but with colts every year is a new year.
7. Habour: clubs producing colts for the first time often struggle.

Lindfield vs UNSW - Match of the Round

Couple of the heavyweights from 2022 in a big clash to start the season. UNSW appear to be strong, with the core group continuing and no doubt some standouts being drafted in. Lindfield appear to have lost a few from the team that stepped up massively last year, however have a premiership winning group of colts to fill the voids.
Expect Lindfield to be solid, put UNSW to pull away towards the end with more polish. UNSW by 10.

Hills vs Epping
Return of a local derby here. Heard it was pretty even when these clubs trialled a few weeks ago. Will be interesting to see how Hills run out, probably had a down year for them in 2022 based on recent standards. Epping won't be also rans in a comp will likely be a log jam in the middle.
Hills to have the edge in set piece, which should be enough to see them home. Hills by 7.

Briars vs Hawkesbury Valley
Real interesting game here. Rumours are that Valley training numbers have been very shaky, and not many of the ex-shute shield brigade have been seen. With ex-Randwick coaches coming in, expect Briars to lift in 2023 and be real competitors with some new blood.
Very tight this one, based on being at Rothwell I'll say Briars by 1.

Is this based off results - or watching games?
They were always competitive - Had a great scrum when at full numbers - And lost games through terrible meltdowns. The one at Lofberg when they had 3 reds and a few yellows - Lost after the siren to Petersham. Should have been an easy win.
Now they play in Div 3 with clubs putting up 1 team - Will be a walk in the park for these boys.

How do Manly Savers go from a Grand final last year? to 1 team. I was informed they had 3-4 players who had played on the International 7's Circuit last year. Are they similar to Waverley where they get all the players from back packers? Or are the core bunch of locals still doing Surf boats?

Sad news on one of NSW rugbys oldest clubs.
Ll
Last year WSU decided that HAC RUFC (a rugby club that has existed since 1891) would no longer be supported as a student club of the University. Thus sadly - for the first time in 132 years HAC will not be playing rugby this season. Vale HAC Rugby (1891 - 2022) a fine run from an outstanding club that always punched well above its weight!! There's not many rugby clubs that can claim a full team of test players as past players.

Lindfield, my old club, fielding 5 15s plus 25 reserves, with two women’s sevens squads tomorrow. As ever the depth is there, will wait to see how the ones match up against a reportedly strong UNSW side. Old Soldier

So Lindfield is going to have weeks where they have 50 blokes not playing.

Look forward to seeing how things flush out by tonight.

Why did WSU decide this? Feels like what has happened in the CHS schools rugby system. Should have called it a Quidditch Club and they would have been fine.
