Sydney Subbies 2025

Div 3 Week 3 predictions:

Not sure we'll get 3 games on this week given the rain we've had, but on the off chance we do...

Beecroft @ Knox: The battle of the teams who lost their wins over BOBs already. Two formerly 2/2 win teams going head to head to return to 2 wins. Beecroft has been very very convincing through two weeks of the year (though Hornsby and Barker not exactly tough tests) whilst Knox was shakey at home vs LCOI last week. On that account, I'll give the edge to Beecroft in this one. Not sure what happened to Filipo in week 1 but Knox seemed to miss him last week. This will be the biggest test of the year so far for both teams, time to nut up or shut up. Beecroft by 10.

Hornsby @ LCOI:
It's been tough sledding for both sides this year so far. Hornsby seems to have found the jump to Division 3 tough with large losses to Beecroft and Hills, whilst LCOI has had two relatively narrow losses to Hills and Knox. On that, you'd have to give the edge to LCOI at home who are finally looking to convert promising starts to Ws. LCOI by 10.

Blacktown @ Hills:
The new kids on the block head 15 minutes east to Yattenden to play in a somewhat local darby vs Hills to open their account in Division 3. Hard one to call here, Hills have looked very solid through two weeks whilst Blacktown are a bit of an unknown, though they did have a close loss to large years Div 3 heavyweights Merrylands last week. I'll give the edge to the home side here, but will be watching this one closely as it could really go either way for mine. Hills by 7.

Div 1:

Drummoyne vs Lindfield: Going to go with Old Soldier for the away upset in this one. Lindfield by 10

Blue Mountains vs Hunters Hill: Clash of the big boys and probaly only game that will actually go ahead. Mountains for me in this bruiser by 13.

Colleagues vs Waverley: Waverley by plenty, 20+

Mosman vs Newport: Newport have attracted a lot of interest after dominating Div 2 last year and their first up clean sweep of Drummoyne. Going to go with that momentum and tip the upset against the Whales. Breakers by 7.

We've been getting pelted with rain over here in beautiful downtown Canada Bay council - unless they've got snorkels at Drummoyne or Taplin (right along the river, mind) I think they'll need a miracle or grow lamps to pull all the water out.

Also, don't know if this an official confirmation or not but Forest are no longer listed on the Robertson Cup (Colts) ladder.

I'm very bullish on what this years Lions tour will do for participation across all levels next year. Everyone on this forum knows full well rugby's struggles over the last decade, But it has survived and the only way from here has to be up!

I'll be doing my bit with the new Head of Rugby Western Sydney - already in contact and planning a beer at the Ettamogah to help him solve everyone's problems.

I'll even do it for free ;) and just hope he doesn't recruit my best talent for Newport :D

Div 4 predictions:

Maccabi v Redfield - ROBRs produced the goods again at Sommerville last week and I reckon they'll continue that over at Burrows. Maccabi have a very solid team across the park and it'll be a pacey fight out wide.

HVRU v Canterbury - long trip for Berries and Valley have been very composed in their 2 wins so far. Home side by a bit.

Epping v Renegades - we're a bit more settled this week, while Epping were solid for 40 against Redfield then fractured a bit out wide. Predicting a heavy track at Sommerville but should be a glorious day of rugby. At least we won't get flogged by 100 like last time I played there ;)

Harlequins v Raptors - Quins have had 2 weeks off after skipping the long weekend. Raptors have been in decent form despite Round 1 having low numbers. The travel might be the factor.

2 home. 2 away. Let's see...

I understand they were given until this week and if no luck they'd be removed. Forest haven't named a colts team on their socials I understand why Forest were given the benefit of the doubt given the strength of their colts program in recent memory but I'd say there would be a few clubs questioning a double standard.

5 club comp with 4 teams in finals - low bar to make a GF qualifier for the first week of semis with 1 v 4.

He's an excellent coach and great rugby mind.

We are off at Hudson tomorrow, unfortunately.

A lot of other games going ahead, UNSW v Irish is now at Latham.

Drummoyne and Concord Ovals open for 1sts only apparently.

Couple ground changes I’ve seen.

Raptors will now host Harlequins at their ground in Shalvey.

Beecroft now hosting Knox at Headen Park

LCOI v Hornsby is washed out

Well I'm confused - Petersham have named a Colts team that is scheduled to play at Melwood at 12:45pm! Forgive my double standards comment - hopefully Forest have bounced back.

Looks like from the socials it’s been called off completely.
Number of clubs with washouts early in the season going to present a headache for Subbies to reschedule.
