Tahs vs Reds (Super AUS), Narrabri 20/09/25 @ 5:45 pm

It is interesting how QLD are treating this game by their selections compared to NSW.

I am biased as a Reds fan but it seems that only one side is taking the competition seriously and wants to make fans of top-level rugby happy to have games to attend. (I am sure I have now created a curse, and NSW will win to prove me wrong).

Should RA step in and tell NSW to pick a team from their best available players or is their lack of ensuring that quality teams are selected a sign that RA don't really care about the competition?
Who are the players NSW aren’t picking though? No doubt I’m missing some but for the most part it seems to me the missing names are Wallabies, injured, suspended or leaving. Pete Samu probably the only one I can think of missing.

Which players aren't NSW picking who are available?

The problem isn't that the tahs aren't taking this comp seriously, it's that they are still coming back from years of dog shit management. They don't have better players playing here because this is the 3rd or 4th year in row they've had turn over up around a third of the squad (if not more). They are actually doing more or less the best they can here and taking a look at a bunch of club guys to see who is worth a proper contract. There's not much else the current management can do in this situation.

"reckless/dangerous play"

Not sure the specific incident, he did cop a yellow for repeated infringements during the Force game but that was for not rolling away. Must have been something they picked up after the fact.
It was most likely for his dive on Fakafanua (15:50 match time) after he had been tackled out by Wilson which led to Fakafanua leaving the field with concussion not long after.

They also have been the team sacrificed by RA to deal with the fallout from the Rebel's mismanagement

If they could have Gamble, Bowen, Saunders etc out there they would. Even Samu being released would be good but Schmidt must want him ready. Or he has a minor niggle.

This comp is also never going to turn any public into fans of Rugby. They don’t even know it’s on. It’s about strengthening the Super Rugby sides that can help the Wallabies which then increases public interest.

It can and should be dragging in club fans who don't do Super Rugby and start getting them following the development cycle and names they know with a chance of hitting the big time.

I didn’t agree with the people who attacked the RA for showing favouritism by sending most of the Rebels to the Tahs, but this is a stretch. Yes, there was a changeover of players and they lost some talent but they picked up the likes of Tupou, Leota, Kellaway, Lancaster, Kailea, Talatina whilst also getting Sua’ali’i. I’m not sure if there was really much sacrificing going on.

It’s not going to. You have 3 games and at most 2 at home.

Club games also aren’t some shining light of crowd numbers. They go ok for what they support but the majority are lower grades, friends, family and old boys. I’ll add that the entry should just be thrown open if you want to drag people in. Don’t charge them and have any barriers.

I’d love it to be something more but it’s a service product for those above it.

I mean I watched the Reds / Brumbies on Stan and parts of the Tah / Force games, they were pretty good, except for the absolute noob jockeys they get in to commentate these games its a reason bit of rugby on in the off season.
