The best XV of players from any school

Ok paul Mcclean can play 15 instead of peter hewat. He was at LIrish so I thought i would give him a leg up into the team but seems that you guys weren't too happy with him there.

And tony D'arcy can play loosehead, maybe herman hunt to tighthead.

Was debating whether Blair Connor, Nemani, shipperley or John Fogarty should be on the wing. Went for Ratu because he's massive and I have never seen Fogarty play so he is ruled out.

There must be only a handful of schools that have 15+ Wallaby alumni, and of those even less who could fill every position - my guess is that we'd struggle to find 5 (which is not to say I don't find the exercise interesting).

Not sure if a single database exists to map the High School attended by each of the 848 Wallabies (from #1 Paddy Carew, 1899, to #848 Scott Higginbotham, 2010). Someone probably has it already, and if not it wouldn't take too long!!!

A good form guide may be the Aust Schoolboys, although many of these have not gone on to Senior Representative duties with the national squad, and I am sure that there are plenty of Wobs who were not Schoolboy reps.

Schools listed below have four or more representatives who have played for Australia Schools or Australia Schools ‘A’ (1973 - 2009). http://austschools.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=24297

Wow, You have accounted for about 350 of the 848. The other 500 must be pretty dispersed, or maybe from so far back that there is no record of the the school attended.

If those numbers are fair dinkum, we are going to struggle to name a complete 1st XV + bench from many schools, if a being a Wob is a key criteria.

Just as well they have otherwise the sport wouldn't have survived WWI and this forum wouldn't exist.

The factories can put out 30 - 40 teams every Saturday. What we need to do is to keep it going AND grow village rugby for lads who don't go to these schools. Sure the best ones may get scholarships and end up at the factories but the challenge is to grow the sport outside the factories regardless.

As I said in the first post:

A thread like this may be anathema to some folks who think that it is more important that we discuss spreading the rugby grassroots away from elite rugby schools, but they need not post to that effect. That will be taken as a given for some forum members, and I agree with them whole-heartedly, but am posting this for those who may be interested.

In this down period perhaps folks like Slimwho missed my earlier comment would like to start another thread on the factory matter and leave this thread for others who are interested in it.

Well, out of the 11 for Epping BHS, I believe they have one test cap in Brett Papworth and for the 35 at TSS, 16 I think

Pumpkinhead, that Duncan Hall wasn't the early 80s Duncan Hall was it?

Well, out of the 11 for Epping BHS, I believe they have one test cap in Brett Papworth and for the 35 at TSS, 11, maybe 12 caps

That's nothing, according to the stats above Terrace has produced 24 Aussie Schoolboys and 32 Wallabies. Obviously the Aussie Schoolboys concept only goes back so far.

Don't forget AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) Rothschild!

Epping???? think not friend unless there is something not published.
according to wikipedia he was educated at the Berkeley Vale High School and played his junior rugby for Ourimbah on the NSW Central Coast. He is the nephew of former Wallaby and Brumbies winger Graeme Bond.
