Wallabies 2023

Palmer was there??? Well guess it confirms the rumours I’ve heard that Petrus is the next body on the chopping block after Tattsy.
Any idea on why they would be punting Petrus?

Scrum went alright, I didn't think there was much in it for either team as both won scrums on the others feed. Also held its ground on those 5m scrums.

Line outs were shocking, there was a couple that were on Folau and according to Dan McKellar at half time, the line out woes were due to not being dynamic enough.

I'd be starting Porecki next weekend to see whether the line out woes are the calls or the thrower that's getting in the way.

It was actually the reverse for FF (Folau Fainga'a) y day, normally he has a few not straight when he is off but it seemed to be the comunication with he & Arnold that was off. Poreki has won me over a bit but we are not flush with riches at 2. BPA surely coming in for the spring tour

Not a great look if just another Brumby coach gets the gig.

Wasn't there a Reds coach waving noodles around..

Why does it matter where they come from if they help us win...

Post another laughing emoji Reg, Your bias is showing again

Surely even the most one-eyed supporters would admit it isn't a great look (nor probably the best use of available talent) for one club's coaching staff to be recruited into the bulk of senior roles in the national team...

Nah, they should bring in Ben Mowen to fix up the line-out too.
Larkham might pop in too to help Lolesio develop.
George Smith gunna come in for breakdown masterclasses.
Gunna be ACT Wallabies in no time.

:)

Really??? Don't you just want the best person for the job...

That’s the subjectiveness in any nepotism claim, whether they are the best person for the job, or simply have the best friends for the job

Hard to argue Laurie Fisher doesn't belong in the wallabies set-up. He has been well-regarded as one of the best for years now.

I would say it is strange to have both Dan McKellar and Fisher at the same time. But McKellar clearly being groomed for a HC position one day, which would be ideal having an Aussie in the position. Fisher brings a wealth of experience. So no issues there.

Palmer is a strange one. Also, a good reputation but surely there are better scrum coaches around. Although that would probably mean another foreign coach.

Who are the great coaches available instead of the current lot?

He hasn't even got a job... Who fucking knows why his there, it's the same as the Reds coach at training..

So pathetic specially after a great win.

I'm completely on board with McKellar (though to be convinced of future WB HC role) and Fisher. Even think the background together at the Brumbies is a positive. Being in that situation is still odd, but agree it is good. From there though, selecting the "best" person interviewed at lunch time in Civic is not a good look. Which is where this started.

Yep, absolutely. Apologies for being skeptical that the best candidates, both nationally and internationally, are those who happen to be currently working with the bloke who's the heir apparent to the top job.

To be clear, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with the choices, particularly Laurie Fisher, but you have to admit the optics of it are a bit dubious.

So we agree we want the best person for the job, doesn't matter where he comes from?...

Palmer and du Plessis are specialist scrum coaches so yeah it's pretty weird if they're both in the role? Maybe one for the journos to investigate through the week.

Would be harsh on du Plessis if he's being punted already. Scrum was fine against England, against Arg we were missing plenty of front rowers so can ignore that and the SA scrum been consistently excellent last couple of years and it wasn't complete dominance by them.

Any appointment should be done through a clear and transparent process that isn't unduly influenced by regional bias and friends in the roles; to avoid these nepotism claims.

There's nothing to suggest du Plessis isn't the best person for the job.
