Wallabies 2025

Mr Pilfer

Cyril Towers (30)
Yep they need to just pull the trigger for TRC and go with Tate and Lonergan as the 2 halves. They might need to keep White in the squad as an emergency back up, given there is a pretty big drop off in quality after that (not sure white would be wanting to tour sth Africa though to be a squad member though after just announcing retirement)

Hope he kills it but given he’s been overlooked for so long in a position of overall weakness I’m not holding my breath.

He won’t stuff anything up, but I don’t expect him to improve the side. Good kicking game, tidy pass, average running game. More of a dummy half.

I reckon he’ll plug a gap until some of the younger cohort are given a chance. I though Thomas may have been a smokey off the back of his Super Rugby season but his last showing v the Lions was a bit of a shocker (the Lions I know) but he’s a guy that just needs Super Rugby Aus and games. Thomas and Wilson to be 24, 25 by the RWC. At least one of them will be there in the squad.

Wilson

Tim Horan (67)
If the squad has room for it I'd be bringing Thomas or Wilson in, but as a 4th halfback with McDermott, Lonergan and White also there.

With Gordon's fragility there's every chance he won't be available for the world cup so we need to start working on that depth, but it's too soon for either of those two to be playing away tests against the books, outside of emergencies.

I reckon, in addition to Lonergan, it's the time to bring in one of Thomas, Wilson, or Goddard. White is retiring so I'd think it pointless to keep him around, particularly noting we're closer to the next World Cup than we are the last.

It’s a pretty crappy position nationally. It’s another that we don’t have a guy that would have made the Lions squad.

Always liked Goddard and he looked the goods coming through from 20s but it never kicked on in the pros. He’s brained it in Club and MLR though. He’s the same age as Lonerergan so who knows….

It’s likely the best future for the Wallabies is to blood some young guys on the EOYT.

Even looking across those playing overseas, there's only a handful of guys, and the best of that bunch is probably Powell.. Is this quietly the position most lost to league?

Centres would be my pick there as well as 6&8s for that.

I just don’t think it’s a strong current crop of professionals. There are some very good talents from the 18s through to Thomas and Wilson at 22,23
I'm willing to jump on the Teddy Wilson to be the saviour bandwagon personally, but James Martens has possibly impressed me the most.

James Martens has a big future. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the EOYT even at the expense of either Wilson or Thomas. The other prospect who never gets a mention here, but who performs whenever he gets an opportunity is Klayton Thorn. Pretty much same age bracket as Thomas and Wilson and imo equally on par as far as talent is concerned.

I’m a massive Martens fan but don’t think it makes much sense to take him on this year’s EOYT before he’s played a super game. He’ll get some game time in the upcoming super rugby au format.

We are playing away to the World Champs. You don't just plonk some development half into that situation, give them a couple of training sessions with the team and wish them luck.

This isn't grade rugby down the park. There are all sorts of systems they have to be familiar with
Systems. It’s halfback, just follow the ball.
We’re not beating SA anyways.

So who will replace Tom Lynagh for the RC? There is absolutely no chance his career will last longer than a couple of months after this Lions series. The lad is collecting head injuries like they are fucking Pokemon cards
