Wallabies 2025

just shows that we actually really need a 5th supe club. Our lack of local depth is being seriously tested here. Seems crazy that if you make the starting super team at halfback these days, you're a guaranteed Wallaby.

Kinda happens when your 1st string gets injured, your second string retires, and your 3rd half back gets injured. Let's be honest, though, Lonergan would have been waiting if it weren't for injuries and a retirement, and only then did he get a gig as a bench reserve.

But you could say that for all specialist positions, really.

Don't get me wron, theg 5th team would be great, but it needs to pay its taxes and debt.

Wallabies jerseys are given way to easily now compared to years gone by.

It sometimes seems that if you have played 4 or more years of Super Rugby as a starter you are pretty much assured that you will get a Wallabies Cap.

There is barely a Super Rugby game that occurs where each starting pack doesn't have at least 6-7 current or former Wallabies and sometimes even someone who is on the fringe of selection and gets invited to camp.

Thomas is just a bit more rounded and experienced for me at this stage. By the end of the next Super Rugby season they may be on the same page but right now Thomas got so much in his play during last seasons starts.
And Wilson has been coming off the bench in recent games which will probably work against him

This is a bit unfair, they play so many games with 23 positions now. Added on that half our players are ineligible by playing overseas, I'm surprised more players aren't capped.

If Skelton/Philip/Coleman/Douglas and McMahon/Kemeny/Samu/Swinton etc didn't go overseas maybe Richie Arnold/Canham/Blyth/Neville/Enever and Uru/Reimer/CdC/Leota/Wright don't get caps.

I think this comes from our memories of the late 90s mid 2000s when the side was for good chunk the best in the world. You don't have to change things and it's real hard to break in. I don't know about you, but I still feel like 2002 was 10 years ago....

Eras prior to this had plenty of guys running around club land who had 1-5 Test caps after getting picked on some tour.

Australian Cricket team is the same. When they are a top side, barely any movement but when they have dipped suddenly Bryce McGain & Beau Casson is getting a call up. No offence to those fine Cricketers.

I think we also tend to forget about the (unsurprisingly) forgettable players who got a couple of caps and were never really in the picture to do more than that.

There were a lot of guys last year who probably didnt deserve a cap like Lancaster, Hodgman etc.

I think we can pick out these sort of players in most eras.

If you look at last decade, Rod Davies, Beau Robinson, Cooper Vuna, Dom Shipperley, Paddy Ryan, Chris Feauai-Sautia, Peter Betham, Josh Mann-Rea, Jake Schatz, Leroy Houston, Eto Nabuli, Curtis Rona, Blake Enever, Caleb Timu, Harry Johnson-Holmes are all capped Wallabies. If none of those players had ever played a test no one would feel like we missed an opportunity to unearth a great test player.
