Surely it has to be

1. Sio
2. Moore
3. Kepu
4. Horwill or Carter
5. Arnold
6. Fardy
7. Hooper
8. McCalman
9. Phipps
10. Foley
11. Horne
12. Lilo
13. TK
14. DHP
15. Folau

16. TPN
17. Slipper
18. Holmes
19. Skelton
20. Gill
21. Frisby
22. To'omua
23. Kerevi

The only contentious decision is Horwill vs Carter and I think there isn't a clear winner either way. Both call and jump in lineouts competently but not as good as simmo (though Horwill has the recent experience dealing with the Saracens boys Kruis and Itoje in that space). Horwill possibly has been recognised as stronger scrummager but Carter is very used to packing with Arnold, Moore and Sio in a strong brums scrum this season. Both can be relied on to tackle their hearts out. Both carry ok but not great (carter's poor hands and Horwills lack of speed are issues).

I think it would make good sense for us to have a bruiser on the bench, my preference would be to use Skelton in this role rather than Palu so we can include Gill's on ball presence on the bench while not needing to continue with the 6/2 bench. That said I think it's unlikely so we probably will see Palu or McMahon on the bench with Mumm there as well.

1. Slipper with Sio on bench
4. Horwill

I'll be surprised if Cheika changes it for this weekend.

Of course it will depend whether Lilo is in the starting XV. I would guess he won't be. With To'omua also available for selection he might not even be in the 23.

Can we get Farrell to kick ours as well?

Problem solved.

Ahhhh yes...........................back in the days of junior rugby when you only had 14 players turn up and you asked one of the opposing players to play for your team in this game :)

Our execution was poor.

Yes, it certainly was. We made many mistakes, and some of them were howlers. Not least Falau, Foley and Kerevi's ballet-on-LSD that resulted in Jonathon Joseph's gift try. Gah. That's schoolboy stuff.

Groucho, you made a hell of a lot of sense with that analysis, but just on the issue of the ballet-on-LSD, I would add that it is fairly endemic in Aus rugby teams, including the Wallabies, that they are just inept once the ball hits the ground. Have seen those types of antics in just about every Super Rugby and test match involving Aussie sides (even at U20s, though that might be where the poor skills derive from?).

I can't see Lilo or To'omua starting this week.

Kerevi was very solid bar the clean up attempt, a bouncing rugby ball can and has made better players look mugs.

Foley can kick a lot better and I will be very surprised if he has 2 off games. So far in S18 Lilo is on 76.6% and Foley 74.5%. Not worth changing the side for a perceived benefit with them so close.

51% and 58%? Isn't Lilo on 76.6% and Foley 74.5% this year?

Edit: I see No4918 has already said it.

Plus its not as if Foley and Lealifano are intrinsically bad kickers at goal - theyve both kicked at far higher percentages than that over their career.

Its just a matter of hitting form and having the right tutelage (Foley under Mehretens was in tremendous form).

I personally don't see our goal kicking as a major problem.

What happened to Sio? Also I would remove Mumm and two of Palu/McCalman/Gill

Surprised to see Sio dropped, but there isn't much separating the 3 LH's (4 if you include Ala'alatoa) and the game is in Melbourne......... expect to see Sio back in the team for game 3..........

It'll be interesting to see how the lineout goes with the Brumbies combination of Moore, Arnold, Carter and Fardy.

So who gets dropped?

Gill offers a point of difference by being a pilferer, but there's two shorties already in the back row............

Only one of Palu and McCalman will remain...........

Horwill and Mumm had decent cameos off the bench last week and it would be rough to drop either.........

After last week we need to retain 3 backs on the bench.
