Wallabies v England November 1

TSR

Stilmissit - your comment underlined the challenge Schmidt faces. We surely want him to go all out for the win. In which case playing Ross to get him used to the system is a likely step down from playing Robertson who is already use to it. Ross needs to get familiar with the system through training, through call ups to cover injuries AND when we play games like Japan where Schmidt rolls the dice and put the B team out there. Over time you hope that your depth players get opportunities to play with 75%-80% of the main squad and the line between the As and the Bs gets harder to distinguish. But we are a decent way off that at the moment. Ross is going to have to bide his time at least until Italy I assume.

Some of those are pretty egregious but likewise, I'm sure if we went through half a dozen tests from any team we'd be able to find just as many examples that could/should have been penalized.
Agreed. I have no doubt that the Wallabies infringe but I would be equally confident every team does so. Of coure, a referee will let it go in mid-field but crack down on it in the red zone along with every other offence, petty or serious, they can then think they see.

I reckon they are trying to paint this as dangerous foul play, not just a ruck offense. The leg thing.

They will be trying to get a try wiped off for something that happened 8 phases before

Same coach, leaking to the same journo during the 2023 WC - this time the target was a Fijian
There's something ironic in the Poms crying about illegal actions being danger to their players. Completely disregarding that O Farrell can't wrap an arm in a tackle to save his life.

I assume Borthwick wants to exert whatever pressure he can on the refs - including putting public scrutiny on the Wallabies.
I wonder if he's worried about England getting blitzed at the breakdown? It's the first game for the poms in a while, while the Wallabies have been playing for months now and are more battle hardened.

Edit: Either way, fuck em, it's the poms. They deserve to be clobbered at the breakdown.

I thought Payto did a particularly good job of demonstrating how ridiculous Borthwick's video is:

Pretty happy with Harry's straight bat response too. I'd love to see this whole exercise blow up in England's face this weekend (and ideally all EOYT).

TSR, I understand the thinking, but he ain't a young kid stepping into International rugby, also he's a prop and I assume (with no knowledge) that the systems and plays won't be anything like a back or even back rowers. I cannot believe your statement that he's a step down from Robertson, I thought he was very handy with the Chiefs, I'm disappointed that he's not on the bench this weekend.

Nup. I will get up at my usual time, and impose a news silence on myself (and my beautiful wife) and watch the game on STAN.
I used to get up live but a 1am kick-off is that annoying time of late if I stay up & too close to wake up time to get some extra hours sleep afterwards.

My boy's an early riser anyway so love the instant replay being available on Stan (and being able to skip the pre game and half time). Will watch it around 5am before the wife & daughter get up

As a well prepared Wallaby fan at this time of year, I have Stan + a reliable, charged up set of WiFi earphones on the coffee table, to watch the game around 5am AEST. Definitely makes for a happier sunday later around the house as wife sleeps in til around 8am.
