I dont feel hard done by if there's a borderline forward pass in the lead up to a try against my team. They occur regularly through out the game. It doesn't change the fact that my team didn't stop them from getting over the line. If you can't say a pass is categorically forward on first glance, it should not be called back imo. The reason the NRL bunker doesn't rule on forward passes is due to the difficulty of accurately determining the direction of the ball. If we're looking at slow-mo replays from different angles something has gone wrong.

Really, really, really hoping because they were keeping their powder dry, avoid injuries and avoid revealing hand. Probably being very naive and optimistic.

In my view the Jorgensen try should have stood. Wright's pass wasn't called forward live and the main angle wasn't conclusive because his hands were obstructed by his body so you couldn't see the ball release.

The reverse angle that took them forever to find and show wasn't in line with the play so it didn't really give you much indication on the direction of the hands/ball at release point relative to being forwards or backwards.

It probably was forward but a floating pass released flat is going to go a long way forward when the ball carrier is running at pace.

I'm not convinced a better decision was made to overturn that try rather than just sticking with the on field decision. It certainly took every bit of five minutes though which is way too long.

I was pretty convinced it was forward and wasn't disappointed that the try was disallowed. What did disappoint me was how long it took to arrive at the decision. Just get on with it!

Both passes (particularly the 2nd one) looked forward live. To me it feels like they let things play knowing they have the ability to get the TMO to check.

The Fiji try being disallowed has left a really bad taste in my mouth.

One way to potentially limit the impact of the TMO is to remove their ability to change the outcome of a game once the play has gone more than 2 actions (i.e. a kick, pass or ruck), unless there is foul play involved warranting a card.

I can’t work out why we’re trying give the oppo more time and space in attack. Fisher’s D system makes it so difficult for us to re-align. It reeks of us just waiting for them to make a mistake.

Yeah its infecting the game with the same issues VAR brings i.e. the moment of apotheosis is poisoned because you can't celebrate it.

Its also really dumb that the highest possible standard is applied to the moments before a try but not to the rest of the game.

This is my issue with it. Rugby is an inherently messy game. How many times a match would a player kick the ball into a teammate in an offside position in front of them in the ruck, or accidentally make head contact with another player in the ruck. If you take a microscope to every stanza of play, you'll almost always find something to criticize.

The delay was the major part of the problem.

I still think there's an issue with the decision making though. It was probably forward but if you haven't called it live then I certainly don't think we were shown anything that conclusively overturned the decision that had been made on the field.

TMO should be used to avoid making bad errors. It shouldn't be to overturn a decision based on vibes.

I still don't think it is clearly forward. We really don't know though because the view that showed the pass clearly wasn't from in line with the play so it didn't help.

That type of pass is always going to look dodgy even if it is backwards because it will be caught a long in front of where it is passed.

World Rugby need to learn to accept that fans like you will get angry at calls they perceive as going against their team and be okay with that. Worked fine for the 100 years that preceded TMO.
