Surely we roll out close to our best 23 for this one, I’d like to see

Bell, Pollard, Tupou
Frost, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)
Hooper, Tizzano, Valetini
Gordon, Gordon
Ikitau, JAS
Potter, Jorgensen, Kellaway

Faessler, Ross, AA, Williams, Wilson, Lonergan, Stewart, Daungunu

But they may play around with the back row and give Nonggorr a go off the bench, not sure if Gordon can play huge minutes every test

I love the idea of Lonergan coming on with C Gordon and taking the kicking duties.

Let Carter focus on playing and managing the game, without having to deal with goal kicking as well.

(Lonergan is a bit of a sacrificial lamb in this situation)

Do we think C Gordon is really ready for an international return yet? was he even carrying a injury or is the truth he hasn't been ready. I have my doubts. Surely Edmed is still a step up from an undercooked Gordon.

Truthfully I wouldn't mind seeing Lonergan starting this one with J Gordon on the bench to come on.

Edmed just hasn’t worked and never was not even cracking one of the worst super rugby sides, Gordon has been with the team for a few weeks and has been very close they’ve probably been targeting this game for his return

I was talking to a mate **edited to remove coaching "experience" as apprently irelevant** and his view is the Edmed is barely Super Rugby quality. It shows - everything was just stuttering on the weekend (obviously there's not much more a 10 can do behind a beaten pack), but when he did get hands on the ball it was essentially just shovelling it on.

If we're going to give Gordon a go, it's against Italy.

I'm talking C Gordon coming on for the last 25 mins against Italy. Only way to find out if he's ready is to get him out there

Poor CG. Played one NRL game and 8 Q Cup games across two years and we all desperately want him to settle the 10 jersey for years to come. I guess he has a free spin when he gets on.

Look, he's more down on Edmed than I am - he's experienced coaching at a higher level than me (none at all) - I think he's got some insights on it. I'm not trying to make him out as some "genius", just another opinion. (To be fair, he didn't do a bad job, and I haven't properly compared that team's performance now to the time when he was coaching in the set up)

To make it easy for everyone I'll just remove his "experience" because it's hanging everyone up, because if someone is no longer coaching in a particular set up their views are no longer valid it seems.

Fair enough. Thought you were endorsing @rugbyAU's team of starting him.

Agree it's the game you would play him in (if at all), but it still strikes me as a tad crazy that we're using an International game to see if a player with the year or so Carter has had is ready to play at this level again.

Carter Gordon is more likely to add a difference to the way the team has been playing in attack. Whether that difference improves the outcome or not would have to be seen and that can only happen if he plays in some role.

Because of the precarious position of the Wallabies in the rankings, it is imperative that the best team is put on the field for this test. We don't want to exacerbate the risk of losing the 6 spot to Italy. As I said before the Japan test, the game we should have been targeting for resting players was against Ireland. A loss to Ireland will not jeopardise the ranking as much as a loss to Italy, because they (Ireland) rank so much higher than us and it is their home game.
