Wallabies v Italy - 9 November

I don't think enough attention has been paid to one of the real reasons for this loss. So many blown clean outs resulting in turnovers. I counted 4 in the last 10 mins alone. There were probably 10 through the match.

This is diabolical, mostly from our forwards. Many of these were part of pods. Losing possession there is fairly unforgivable.

Samu, Nongorr, Wilson, Kellaway all noticeable for blowing their cleanout late in the game. Frost as well

There will be some unpleasant viewing on the video for some of these players.

The lack of accuracy across pretty much all facets was the biggest issue in this match.

That was accuracy at the cleanout. We gave the ball or a penalty away way too many times in promising positions due to the arriving player missing their cleanout or grabbing the neck etc. and giving away a penalty.

We lacked accuracy off set piece. Two turnovers from forward passes from lineout plays.

We lacked accuracy with our kicking. Four different players all kicked out on the full during the match.

We lacked accuracy around the field. Dumb penalties from Tupou clipping an Italian player with a backhander, Wilson swimming around a maul.

We continue to struggle securing our box kicks whether in attack or defence.

Looking back at it, the box kicks (actually I'll include the other kicks from hand) weren't the problem - it was the lackadaisical chasing (or non-chasing) of those kicks that was a problem
It is amazing how a good chase can make a "shit kick" great, they all should have to watch Doug Howlett tapes and how the kiwi sides will have 2 or 3 units who have worked hard to give the ball receiver options

Or maybe that was the worst British Lions team in history and would have been smashed in SA or NZ.

This Wallabies squad is the worst I can remember. In previous years, with Robbie Deans or Michael Cheika in charge, these types of matches and results occurred against the 2011/2015 All Blacks, back to back World Champions. Now it's Italy that's whipping you. That's really low. Argentina scored 50 points against Italy last year.
Oh you crawled out ya hole

Harry Wilson carried 16 times on Saturday. Tom Hooper 14 (63 mins at 6, 17 mins in the row). Valetini 12 times (in 17 mins at 6).

I haven't counted, but my guess is 0 of these carries were straight from the scrum.

How do these numbers look any different if you change Wilson from an 8 to a 6?
I just want to see Wilson have some of those carries with a bit more space. I'd have no problem with a guy with his skills sea-gulling a bit but I do with other 6s. Other options don't move like he can.

tbh this is all desperation chat with a team that could finish the year on a big L streak. In reality I expect little change from guys who are in the established group. I do think they need Jorgo to 15 for at least the experience building or put JAS there to just return it hard. He shouldn't exit the XV though. We would just be bringing in a lesser player to try not and fuck up.

Wilson and McReight are already spending heaps of their time on the blind edge. They just aren't finding much space out there at test match level.

I do think Schmidt's system is very interesting at the moment (and I don't really understand it). He doesn't have any forward playing wide on the open side a lot of the time, which is why our attack looks so narrow.

I haven't worked out what he's trying to do there. (Maybe he just doesn't trust this team to secure ball through the pods)

Understandably

But they aren't securing the ball doing it this bizarre way

This honestly feels like Schmidt at the end of his Irish tenure. No creativity, stubbornness to a play style that isn't working

Do you have the post contact metres made by those three? (i ask hoping you have access to more detailed stats than I do)
