Wallabies v Lions Game 2 MCG 26 July

Rugby Head

For any misgivings I might have about Porecki he now appears to be the number one pick (when fit) for the last 3 Wallabies coaches and it says something that Schmidt has rushed him back to start as soon as he has been available.

I don’t believe coaches at any level always get it right - but you have to acknowledge they see a lot more of these players, have a lot more analysis available and have a much clearer picture on how individuals fit into a broader structure. Clearly Porecki brings enough that he is considered worth backing.
Must be very good on the training paddock. Seems to get knocked out or injured most games he starts though.

Mods, I'm unsure if this is kosher so let me know if I'm out of bounds.

I managed to snag a upgrade for Saturday so am looking to sell my ticket. If there are any GAGRs or friends of who want a last minute spot, holler at me in DMs.

Two tickets available:
- Shane Warne Stand, Level 4, Door 4, Q5 AA 9&10.

Bought through Ticketek for $199 each. Make me an offer I can't refuse.

I'm fine with it. It's not like you're trying to gouge people.

As a side note, I sold a few spare tickets to the Waratahs vs Lions game via Tixel which was really easy because I also managed to get an upgrade.

He’s had his injury issues, but so have guys like Slipper, Ala'alatoa, Valetini, Wilson, Gordon, Sua’ali’i, Lynagh etc

Some players definitely seem more injury prone than others but do we start excluding players based on past injury history? I think it’s reasonable that coaches satisfy themselves that a player is fit now and, therefore, base their selection on everything else.

I assume he is very good at training (fair enough to reward that). He is also a consistent performer rather than flashy. I rate Faessler but if Schmidt thinks Porecki’s lineout throws are just a bit more consistent and his defence a bit more reliable (and I am just speculating on what the decision process is) I can understand how that would be enough in an environment of fine margins to get Porecki over the line. Neither Fez nor Porecki are there to be game breakers - they are there to be accurate and provide workrate.

He gets concussed a lot more than those boys though.

Yeah it's a route I'm trying but the technology wrestle is making me lose what hair I have left

Bit of praise for Wilson's captaincy from Schmidt:

I thought it was very noticeable at the ground last weekend how vocal and involved he was, both in trying to get the team organized and motivated and in dialogue with O'Keefe. He may not have got the pay off on that quick through decision, but the refs would've been aware of it in their review of the game, and that should start to pay off in the long run.

So I wonder what changes there will be to the targeting of Lynagh's (and jorgo)and isolation from high kicks

We added some ball running starch to the pigs, so the Lions will likely increase their kicking

Our backs will need to work their arses off to support the receivers and Wright needs to own kick returns

So does Lynagh.

I have concerns about both of them in terms of their long term health but I don’t think any of us can judge from the sideline whether they should be excluded from playing on that basis.

Wright is on the other side of the field to Lynagh most of the time for box kick returns.

The Lions are a well-coached team. They will either be dropping those bombs on Lynagh's head if he's back, or targeting their wingers at that edge if Jorgo drops back for the kick. There's no way around it.

Sure it is? I think statistically its probably a fine decision.

However, given its the Wallabies i fully expect four back injuries within 3 minutes of kickoff.

I don't think so. Look to the depth of the Boks. The bomb squad comes with a group that is at least similar par to the WBs straters. Then look to the skillset in covering injuries across the group. Also look to the style of play and consider the degree of "problem" should the Boks be forced to play a 15x forwards game to see out a match with injuries.

It's not the same as the WB "hand grenade". Imagine if we have to deal with an early injury to Ikitau. Add another injury anywhere from in-centre to fullback and work it through. Another area as mentioned by many is how the line-out will work. Noting that apparently we are chasing a territory game which means kicking. It doesn't mean I don't support the hand grenade, just that the risk comparex to the bomb squad are not the same.

Yeh I sold my tahs one on Tixel after an upgrade. tech seemed ok. couldnt sell my Brumbies ones even at bargain prices. I'll probably look at Tixel when buying tix for anything as you'd expect some cheapies assuming an event isnt sold out.
