Thoughts:
- Why did Tupou get a run? seriously. If you are going to pick him you might as well just concede the game.
- Controversial opinion perhaps but JAS's concussion has been coming. His tackle technique is not good.
- I honestly don't get what people are seeing for them to call for Gordon to be dropped for Teddy. Thought he was excellent tonight.
- some real hunger from the forwards. Thought they were much improved in all facets and the scrum was clearly dominant (though largely unrewarded)
- Can't say the same for the backs. Defence was strong but not a lot happening in attack.
- The game just happens around Edmed. His go to move is to receive the ball stationary and shovel it to someone to get wiped out. Happy for the Brumbies to have him but not sure where the Tahs go.

I guess the Reds did some stuff too. Tate was alright, or something.

stats are fairly favourably pointed to a Reds victory, the question is probably why they didn’t win by more

They did blow 3-4 try scoring opportunities when all the hard work was done.

I’m not sure that the first call on Canham was right either as I didn’t think he used his lower body to propel himself forward, merely to straighten up. (But TMO thought otherwise and there was enough there to make it doubtful)

But I think the main culprit was the couple of bombed tries and probably a bit of soft defence early on.

I think the end of the 4th point answers the first question. He was chasing big shots last night, looked quite fired up. Maybe thats a good sign?

Big agree on this one. It didn't get talked about much because he missed and got injured, but the way he charged in with his shoulder cocked had he connected it would've been a yellow card for a shoulder charge to Daugunu's head. Dropping height would've saved him from Red, but it's not clear what he was trying to achieve - Daugunu was already tackled and the angle Sua'ali'i was coming from would just have been illegal as a cleanout.

Not pretty but a gritty win by the Reds. Honestly though, Canham gets dropped on his head and Doleman could not have been in a better spot to see it but somehow misses if. Great indication to the quality of referring foul play on the reds this year.

I went back ands watched it again and - in fairness to Doleman - there was a fair bit happening at that ruck and, from where Doleman was standing, it very likely would have looked like Sua'ali'i's position in the ruck was the lever that tipped Canham.

What I don't understand is how the justification for it not being upgraded to red was "the player does not land very dangerously". Canham went beyond vertical and the only reason he didn't land on the top of his head was because he - probably to the elation of Matt Burke - 'fell safely' by tucking and rolling. Really hate how far into the territory of outcome-based punishment we've gone.

Yeah it looked like he was trying to put a shot on. I love his aggression and intensity but he really needs to be more careful, for his own safety but also risking being penalised/carded. He loves that dogfight so much - if I’m the Lions I’m niggling him ala Swain a few years back.

I thought it looked like he was coming in to contest the breakdown. Then Canham cleaned Kellaway into him.

I feel like some of those attacking stats would have blown out late in the game, when the Reds started finding space around the ruck, was otherwise pretty tight. Reds struggled to make metres in contact until late in the game, Tahs forwards really aimed up until then.
