Just got done watching the replay of Wests vs Sunnybank. Lot of credit to Sunnybank at the breakdown. They were the more committed team. They seem to clear out a lot better and when on defense slowed down the pill for Liam Dillion and in turn were ready to rush Carter Gordon. But congrats to Sunnybank! Well played.. let’s hope they can play spoilers from here on out.

Other thoughts from around the ground.
• tough loss Easts. Losing after 80 minutes is no fun. Take solace in that it was a close loss to the champs
• Souths must be disappointed that it was 26-all around 60-70 minute mark. They had a chance to take the lead but Brothers scored 2 tries in the final 10-15 minutes
• golf clap to UQ. Others were ready to write you off last week. Not me! You take care of Souths this upcoming weekend and then the the reds cavalry returns!! Will be the danger team in round 2 of QPR.

I agree SX but I still think Uni may come up a win short at the end of the season - which will be a relief for the top 4 teams.

Bros 9 wins;
GPS 8 (2 byes);
Sth 6;
Wests 5;
Easts 5;
Uni 4;
Bond 3;
Norths 2;
Snbk 2.

If 9 wins is the cut then Uni will need to win 5 from 6;

Wests & Easts 4 from 6. Wests loss to Snbk & Easts loss to Norths may well come back to bite them.

Kirwan Sanday is off to Japan for a stint in the revised Japanese competition over the next few months, so Easts won't be getting him back this season. I thought he had been injured but it looks like he was just preparing and training for the move by the sounds of it.

Good to see that nothing is set in stone between the teams - I expected GPS to more comfortably beat Easts and was really pleased at how close it was. Same with Brothers over Souths and Wests vs Sunnybank.

We all got caught out with the Dragons upsetting the Doggies this week. Everyone tipped GPS and a couple of people went for the upset of Souths over Brothers. Majority got behind Uni at home.

I was at that the Souths V Brothers Game and the game hinged on a couple of refereeing decisions that could have gone either. The crowd behavior was very very poor by the Brothers guys and unless they get that under control there will be issues before the season is out. Letting guys who have clearly been on the drink onto the field directly after the game is a recipe for disaster.

Was at Bro's v South's as well, South's really shot themselves in the foot in the last quarter of that game. Have to say I agree there were some odd decisions in the game but they went both ways and mr. referee sounded pretty animated post match with the South's coaching staff. You would have to think Brothers will be too strong in the finals series with the return of the 20's if they have to face South's again.

On that note, it would be nice if alcohol was managed a little bit better at some of the grounds. Is there a maximum number of drinks you can order at the grounds?

I think a bit of overreaction lately of what is expected from club rugby football.

Coaches coaching from the goal line. Water boys relaying messages now fans running onto the field post match.

Some real nanny state complaints if you ask me. This is suburban footy and as long as a support runner or rowdy drunken filth fan is not interfering with the outcome of the game then we should just all shut up and enjoy the spectacle.

Mostly agree however when the abuse reaches the level it did after the game on the weekend don't bring out your nanny state argument when a player deals with a spectator hurling racial abuse at him.

You never mentioned racial abuse... I’m not condoning that & that’s aspect that needs to be cleaned up from 3rd Tier.

But if a playing group is simply running into the field after a gutsy win... I say let them do it.

100% agree SouthernX, this is what club rugby is all about and why crowds turn up! We remove this side of the game then all we do is risk losing punters turning up

I think the issue is actively providing ways for players, especially Colts players who play earlier in the day, to get blotto drunk before Premier Grade kicks off. Clubs I support have been guilty of it so I'm not pointing the finger but we need to remember that all club rugby fields should be a place everyone wants to come and enjoy the spectacle. My elderly parents and their friends who have been true blue rugby lovers since the dawn of time have chosen to avoid a few grounds because they don't want to deal with some of the issues. I don't think it's ruining the game for all spectators but there could definitely be improvements.

Agree Jason, Love the atmosphere of club rugby and the intermacy that comes with some of these suburban grounds.

I imagine there’s no scarier thing in club rugby then being a visiting lineout thrower or goal kicker at venues like Yoku Rd or Bottomley Park when your near the glue factory or where the tigers supporters like to mingle.

We need to preserve the things that make club rugby great (respectful non-discriminating heckling) and stamp out things like Brisbane boys alluded to which is racism.

What issues, which grounds?

If you don’t feel comfortable sharing I understand. But I don’t think there’s any problems tbh. Colts players getting drunk and enjoying premier grade is part of the culture of grass roots footys. It’s a shame Phil your parents are turned off by a couple of venues.

They weren't personally targeted but encountered some issues at GPS, Brothers and Easts over the last few years, a variety of things occurred and they just decided to avoid going to those grounds. Which is a shame because GPS and Brothers in particular they used to hold events at whilst I was still a player.

As a coach I know I've been guilty of providing large amounts of alcohol (purchasing cheap cartons from the clubhouse) to my Colts teams when they finished their 11am kickoff games and have had to personally reign a few of them for inappropriate behavior during the main games. I'm not a fun sponge either, but felt in some instances it's gone too far. Thats just personal opinion though and I appreciate that you don't see the problems.

I went down to Crosby Road on Saturday for the last few games - I am certainly no follower of either club but it was a good fun environment and great game viewing from the can bar - I thought the young fellas in the Butchery were having a good fun time pumping out great tunes!!!
