Interesting Jock was at TSS up until this year, wonder how he feels about his old school mate’s likely GPS premiership now he is at the north end of the M1?

Meant to also say , yes agree both have had very good seasons.
Jock’s work rate is terrific and tall enough to be a genuine line out target.
Titi is great in contact in both attack and defence, pulled off a couple of bone rattlers playing for Qld U18 back at the end of June .

Malolua is in the Samoa 34 man WC squad ( 1 of 3 halfbacks). If he makes the 31 man cut, surely this will be his first and last contract with the Reds if he ends up a capped International?

ASY (Angus Scott-Young) has a pretty rare and remarkable combination of talents. He could potentially be the first queenslander to attempt balancing medical school and playing for the Reds since John Roe (now Dr Roe FRACS, Orthopaedic Surgeon). He's a natural leader as well. I can't be sure, but I suspect that he may be the type who would play for the Reds/Wallabies as long as possible and then just finish up/go back to club when his QLD career is over. He must be a great bloke to have it the squad

Great for those two boys, but also far from ideal from a QLD/Aus perspective. I feel terribly for Bobby Tuttle, who's back to back injuries have really destroyed his QLD career. It wasn't so long ago that Bobby's star was on the rise as the captain and arguably one of the best players in the U20's (though admittedly they weren't great in that year). Sure, he was unlikely to hold onto QLD's 9 jersey with the rise of McDermott but Malolua has now essentially ruled himself out of a long career at the Reds and the more I watch of Sorovi the more I think that the marked deficiencies in his game (passing consistency, kicking, game control) are never going to be coached down to where the positives outweigh them....
On an indirectly related note, I wonder if the Reds haven't made a mistake in announcing their 2020 Super Rugby squad before a ball has been kicked in anger during the NRC? I mean, you never know the full story behind the scenes and of course a lot of our super talented 20 year olds needed to be locked up on long term deals but for the last 3-5 spots in the squad? I mean was it really necessary to sign Uru, Kibble, Wood, Farrell before the NRC was complete. You've got to wonder if they could have waited and made better informed, or in some cases different decision there.

I think you have it right that alot of the young guys needed to be locked down. Some of those on development contracts. Other development contracts are up for grabs, and whilst I agree that some could come from the NRC, when you see how deep into our players we have gone for pro contracts (teenagers and u20), would there really be any other players from Qld that we have missed? Seems like Reds and the Reds academy have already had to be quite thorough (and potentially generous) already.
I'd say the only reason to keep a pro contract squad open (and not development) would be if the Reds, and through their pathways highlighted there just is NOT someone with ability or potential to step up within their systems, so they have to wait for the NRC to see if one crops up from a different state.

I think the Reds probably felt they needed to lock specifically Uru, Kibble and Wood down before NRC in case they make a huge mark in the competition and someone else throws them a full-time contract. Considering the wealth of back row talent currently at Reds HQ you could imagine these guys coming through probably feel the pinch a bit to step up and if another club comes along offering more game time and money, it would be a hard sell for the Reds to keep them.

Im pretty happy with the Kibble and Wood retention, they're both clearly talented players and have demonstrated enough through the past 12months that they have the talent, especially if they're just on development contracts. Uru is the one that surprised me, and ill be watching intently through the NRC to see if he has earned it, but someone must have seen something in him pretty promising.

I think Uru is super interesting signing. Unlike the other boys he has had very little "pathway" training, the means his upside is twofold. One, he is underdeveloped physically - yet still holding his own. Two, because he hasn't be part of the institution of Australian rugby, he plays the game with a different outlook.
I have no idea if it will be a good signing, but I appreciate mindset the Reds management.

Uru could be an incredible bench forward. Can play 4,5,6,8.
Also, apparently he played three years of Fiji U20s. Impressive.

Bit tough but you get 6 backrows in a full squad and I think we have a great group. With such a young group, I imagine all will get their chances at some stage, with no out and out non debatable guarentees, perhaps except Wright.

1. Stewart looked pretty comfortable in the midfield. Maybe 12/15 utility is going to be his ultimate destiny. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
2. QLD country loosehead George Francis is a massive unit. Where the hell did he come from?
3. Hunter Paisami has the physicality and raw ability to go well at a higher level but would need a hell of a lot of refining of skills and game awareness. Similar things could be said about Wilson.
4. Generally the Reds players (contracted and WTS) all played reasonably well I thought.
