In return for Argentina seconding Robinson's nomination to WR (World Rugby). Who'd have thunk it?

Robinson's path through the corporate and rugby administration world has followed a similar path. No surprises here, just a microcosm of rugby administration in Australia.

Looks like a pay deal might soon be reached.

Kudos to our highest paid players for pushing a scheme that sees them take the lion's share of the pay cuts. With a 65% average pay cut and the lowest paid players taking very little in the way of a pay cut it certainly means our top players will be shouldering huge reductions in salary. This is essentially what is needed and hopefully the players all vote for it.

Brett Robinson (RA) has seconded Pichot's nomination it would seem.

Let's hope someone from the SH gets one of the top two spots. Bernard Laporte has nominated for vice-chairman, with Beaumont's support; that'd mean two NH bods for the top two spots. Surely there should be a protocol the chairman's and vice-chairman's roles to be permanently shared between the two hemispheres, even by rotation.

The NH might have the money but the SH can claim to be better at rugby: won 8 out of 9 RWCs to date.

And Argentina dropping out of the 2027 World Cup bidding process. Can't be underestimated how huge that is.

I know there was a very real concern that Argentina would pinch the 2027 World Cup rights because of Pichot greasing the wheels with World Rugby delegates.

Now they have dropped out, leaving us (for now) with a clear run to the line.

If we're successful we will go from a Lions series in 2025 to a World Cup in 2027. If we can stay afloat until that point, it looms as a major turning point for the game.

Laporte ain't gonna get bumped out by any SH bumpkin.

Not with this sort of realpolitik

Geeez what a mess that all was. Here's the meat of the story Cully linked to;
Kean = Nominated WR (World Rugby) official
Whippy = Deceased

Kean was arrested and tried before an Auckland justice sitting in the Fiji High Court, Gerard Winter, who convicted him of manslaughter.

Winter noted that the reception at the Royal Suva Yacht Club a relative of the groom, John Whippy, was drunk. Several fights had taken place during the evening and at 2am Whippy left in a taxi.

"As John Whippy was assisted to the taxi he was in an ugly drunken mood," Winter said.

Kean told him to mind his language but as the taxi left Whippy kept yelling. Kean demanded the taxi stop.

"(Commander Kean) then came up to John Whippy and punched him three times in the face," the judge said.

"John Whippy first hit his head against the taxi light then fell heavily to the ground on his back. While he was lying on the ground Francis Kean kicked him on the chest. The accused was dragged away by an unidentified woman but returned to kick John Whippy's head."

Part of me was thought, yeah that's pretty insane, but happens regularly. If he's done the crime then he needs to do the time.

Wikipedia then goes on to say;
He was released, however, after only one week. The charges were reduced from murder to manslaughter because the only witness had been murdered.

I pretty impressed with Argentina pulling out of WC bid, although to be fair WR (World Rugby) had indicated a couple of months back that they were pretty keen on Aus getting it, so they get a financial benefit they need, one of the many reasons I like our game, although many feel it every man for himself, if we actually read what's going on there is a lot of support seemingly to try to keep Rugby going and in a good place by most members of the WR (World Rugby) council!

At about 1 minute in the host says the Wallabies were at one stage ranked behind Japan. Is that right?

Yes after Japan beat Ireland. I think it lasted less than 24 hours though, we lost to Wales but I think by less than the rankings suggested we would. Or something like that anyway.

Hmm, I might've misspoke.

'No handout possible': SANZAAR won't get virus bailout, says Pichot

Vice-chairman Augustin Pichot says World Rugby won't bail out SANZAAR nations that hit the financial skids, making it critical they extract themselves quickly from the coronavirus pandemic.

Either that or Pichot has done the voting numbers and Sanzaar won't get him over the line

"World Rugby has announced details of a dedicated COVID-19 relief strategy aimed at supporting the global game and mitigating the overall impact of the pandemic on the sport.

"Underpinned by a relief fund of approximately US$100 million to assist unions through to the resumption of the sport, the strategy reflects World Rugby’s commitment to leading the sport through its greatest challenge and is a result of cross-game collaboration that has enabled key decisions to be taken in the spirit of solidarity and partnership.

"The relief fund will available for unions requiring immediate emergency funding subject to appropriate criteria being met. It is designed to assist the maximum number of unions for the maximum amount of time while there is a rugby void.

"For 6 Nations and SANZAAR unions, the financial package will involve a combination of advances and loans, while World Rugby is also committed to supporting emerging nations and regional associations where required."

Another Alan Jones article today in Murdoch rag saying heads should role for castle because broadcast deal not signed.

Oh of course Alan we should have just taken another lowball and quick deal with Foxtel or been clear enough to predict covid 19...Alan Jones - the Murdoch puppet and biggest arse wipe as stain on our game perpetuating the BS politics with old school solutions instead of modern solutions to move us forward.

I wish he would piss off and get interested in nrl...maybe help them go backwards at rate of knots as Alan’s Jones only offers negative value for constructive rationale debate to move rugby forward in oz.
