Super Rugby Au Round 7 - Reds v Rebels @ Suncorp Stadium, 7:15pm Sat 15 Aug

Nasirani didn’t do his wallabies selection any favours, I still think Wilson is a season away from being ready personally but based off tonight you’d have to think the selectors will be tossing up between them for a squad spot - along with Dempsey

Naisarani was excellent last week though. Consistency has been an issue for all the sides (combination of having a very even competition and a lot of young players) so hard to pick a Wallabies side on the basis of one week's performance.

And with that result the season is going down to the wire. All games will be must wins, I'm really enjoying it:)

It's been an outstanding competition. The speed, the skills and the just brutal physicality. Been absolutely loving it. And the fact that we're at this point and there's still everything to play for right across the board is amazing. Yes, even the Force. Who will be desperate for that upset to prove they belong.

The physicality has been excellent. One of the benefits of a local comp in one time zone, teams aren't drained from travelling halfway around the world and are fresh for the matches.

Yeh I find myself more engaged with all the Aussie teams considering the games are always at a good time - I don’t lose track of a team for 3 weeks when they go into the black hole of SA/Argentina and then a bye.

Take away the bombed try he’s was pretty solid. Got lots of go forward and huge work rate. I don’t think he’d have anything against his name after that. Coach will be looking at players putting themselves in position to be held up than those that don’t.

That is what you’d describe as a brain dead display from the rebels. No patience, declined at least 3 easy kicks at goal, declined to go to the corner for the maul numerous times.

Reds were very brave, clearly shows there is a lot of character at the club

Tend to agree. I actually found that an odd game as a whole. The defence from the Reds will be the talking point but I really felt the Rebels were poor with their decision making. Some of the white line fever and inability of Lomani or Deegan to find the space in the line left me a little underwhelmed at times. To'omua was a huge loss.

The kicking by both teams was really uninspiring at many points.

Murphy had an odd game too. Felt he missed quite a bit, let a lot slide and made some calls that seemed just plain wrong. That offside line seemed to creep forward a lot / have a few kinks at times and I'm sure I spotted a number of knockons that were never called not to mention the breakdown becoming a bit of a mess with entry, bodies flopping over, diving in and some rather suspect turnovers. Was actually a little comical at times, like watching 3rd grade play.

That said, that is the kind of game Thorn would have loved. All about grit. You've got to give it to the Reds, they hung strong and you could see their joy in Petaia scoring which was nice to see. That Stewart try was a nice little play too with Tate playing his part just right before the release to JOC (James O'Connor) and Stewart having just the right line to carve past a number of Rebel defenders. McKay would have been happy.

Anyway, well done Reds. A well deserved victory.

Goddamn. Huge defensive work by the reds there.

Hopefully JOC (James O'Connor) didn't break his collarbone at the end there. Didn't look good at all.

my limited first aid experience is that the position that his arm was in when he left the field is the only position of comfort for a collar bone injury.

I hope I am wrong but his positioning is very much like a cyclist who has a collarbone injury

As a Rebels fan my focus on the reds was McReight (what an amazing game, he’d be close to players player of the game with that effort), Tupou (is now clearly the premier TH in the country which is saying something considering AAT is a great player) and LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), he was incredible.

Tupou playing 80 minutes, in a match where the Reds practically defended the entire 2nd half is just borderline insane. What a player he's turned into.

He looked a bit out of sorts at 68 minutes, he need a rest. Maybe he will be benched for the Force or only play 40 minutes?

I'm loving that Tupou has kept all his impact but ironed the silliness out from his game. He's in fine form. Definitely meeting his expectations.

He wasn't great, but he was also clearly marked as the Rebels main go forward player.

I'd still have him at 8 because Wilson isn't clearly ahead and test level might be rushing him. Dempsey is the front runner at 6 if he keeps his form. I'd stick Valentini on the bench.
