Waratahs 2021

Probably reading too much into the previous posts. As far as Waratahs, HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) is certainly a marketable character, we need more. And as far as media exposure, yes, more Harry can sing, yes Harrison is a pretty good surfer, etc.

I think you all might be skirting the real issue, not marketable characters, but just actually winning games.

I do like the idea of resurrecting the ARC ad campaign, feel like that could play well with the 9, Free to air public.

Actually, speaking of good Rugby Ad's, I always liked the Butterflys one;

We shouldn’t be expecting tight five players to be excitement machines who get the turnstiles going. Their job should be all about the set piece, maintaining possession and doing all the grunt work. If they can stand in front of a camera and engage the listener, great. But not at the expense of their core role.

One of the best players we had for fan engagement and popularity at the Tahs in a very long time was Taf Polota Nau.

Yeah, getting some insight into the players backgrounds, lives, characters will help. But winning is probably the best marketing tool. Also surprised no one made the connection with Beale and turnstiles

Gees that was good ad for Arc - I agree Stan and 9 should do something similar

Haha - harsh.

Actually parts of the add are more negative then I remembered them being.

I still think it would like be a good theme for a current ad series, but maybe focus on the positives.

Still - I guess if we all remember it positively all these years later it was obviously a well thought out campaign.

Unless he had to tackle anyone that is....;)

I don't know who the other characters in the team are, but I agree HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) fits that bill well. Not the Tupou superstar on the field thing, but the character who can engage people. Big red-headed bloke from the country, comfortable in front of the camera, great sense of humour and plays in a band. If you can't market that get a new PR firm.

I wonder if the LA Giltinis will become the next pathway for player drain in Sydney, ala London Irish and some of the Japanese links that seem to have formed.

Not just LA but Austin as well. Owned by the same guy. San Diego has Aussie ownership as well and could be another option in the future for some.

I figured Waratahs fans might be interested to listen to this.

Scott Robertson speaks very highly of Rob Penney in this interview. (skip to 7:33).

Thanks for that, it was 25 minutes of interesting listening, not just the bit about Rob Penney. It does line up with what others have said, that Penney is a good coach of young players. Which lines him up perfectly with the 2021 Tahs.

Lol bold of you to assume the tahs can afford to hire a PR firm

It's a fair question, and I find this case particularly irksome.

We all know this LA team backer wanted to put money into Sydney first but was told to get stuffed. A bit lairy, sure, and brassy. But now he's taken that brass elsewhere and Sydneysiders along with it.

I haven't seen enough of Harrison Goddard but I'm familar with Darren Coleman's work. Good coach and an even better recruiter, he'll be tracking some decent talent along with him from Australia to the MLR.

First it was our top talent in their later years that shifted overseas, but there is a definite feeling that it is moving down the foodchain.
