RA lost a golden opportunity in Melbourne. Now the bar is too high for the casual Melbournians. They are used to the Storm's success. How the h*ll u can match that? Not even relocating Brumbies over there you could match that kind of succes

My observations of the game:
• Coleman needs to select a specialist 15.
• Edmed offers absolutely nothing in attack. He fails to spark the backline. He is hampering Foketi and Perese’s attacking prowess.
• Not selecting Gamble to start is a fail.
• The Tahs attacking breakdown is killing us.
• Nadolo’s recruitment has to be questioned. Especially considering we let James Ramm go.
• Carter Gordon was impressive particularly in the 2nd half. He just needs to be more consistent for the full 80mins.
• Rebels attacked with good width unlike the Tahs.
• Hardwick was a thorn in the Waratahs side all night.
• Stacey Ili was my Man of the Match

Carter Gordan has been at least = to the best 10 so far this season
Richard Hardwick has been the best back rower in the 3 games so far wearing 8 or playing 7

Apart from the 2nd half v the force (where we just completely played at the wrong end of the park) Carter has been really good. Last night prob was his best game in terms of leading us around the park to a win though
It gets the runner on an outside shoulder and they may get some extra metres, but the now ball runner was the outside blocker - so the breakdown allows space for Mr Hardwick to visit

As many others have said, the best for the Rebels were Gordon, Ili and Hardwick (MOTM). I wonder how much of Ili's good form is down to Gordon at 10? Not sure he would be so effective outside Tane.
Holloway had another solid game for the Tahs and Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) tried hard all game but few others rate a mention.
No mention here of Perese taking a player out in the air. Thought it should have been a YC at least, but not even a penalty. Michael Hooper's form is poor still since his time away from the game and atm would not be near a Wallaby's jersey.
Gus Gardner had another forgettable game with some poor decisions.

I thought he jumped into him, world rugby was asked about jumping into players and said "jumping to hurdle a potential tackler is dangerous play, as is the act of a ball carrier jumping into a tackle. Even if no contact is made, we believe this act is in clear contravention of law 9.11, and runs contrary to the game-wide focus on player welfare."
They had been asked about hurdling a player to score a try.

The Perese tackle looked bad in real time but the ball carrier jumped into the tackle in the act of intercepting a pass and Perese did everything he could to disengage. It's a non standard situation, jumping to take the intercept like that, but it effectively means Perese had "right of way" there as he had barely even moved from where he was when the pass was thrown. There's an argument it should've been a penalty but I can't see it being more than that. The real stuff up there was the terrible pass Edmed threw for the intercept.
Perese can still count himself lucky though - he put in a high shot when he buys Gibbon's dummy that went unnoticed. There wasn't much in it but it was head contact on a (tall) man without the ball, so it's hard to see it being less than a yellow if they look at it.

I don’t understand why that wasn’t a try. He didn’t appear to be held or tackled under the rules, so what difference is it that he used his knees.
Or was he ruled as being tackled?

Using your knees like that is the same as crawling or rolling extra in a tackle - you just can't promote yourself like that on the ground, you have to take your feet again to do it. It can't be any other way because it's also illegal to tackle a man who's already on the ground, so if someone had have made contact to stop him they would've been risking a penalty themselves.

The criticism of Edmed is bizarre IMO. Sure he hasn’t set Super Rugby on fire but he hasn’t done anything wrong either and seeing him mail the kicks last night was great.
I wonder if a lot of it comes from the fact the Tahs have other playmakers in the squad so we are impatient as opposed to Gordon who has almost no competition for the spot and has had good moments so you forgive the basic errors he still has a lot of.
I’ve said it before but he has less games than Gordon in Super Rugby and you’d say more developed at the same point.
I do expect changes though in the match day squad with Harrison getting through the Tah A game.
It’s a bit of a test here to see if Gordon develops best being the main guy and he’s let just play or does squad depth and pressure force someone at the Tahs to keep improving…
