I actually think Shore will make the biggest improvement and turnaround this year, changing their program and bringing in 2 new 1st and 2nd 8 coaches. Would love to see them really come back this year and put on a show as they don't have as much to lose.

Biggest history, biggest rowing culture, biggest win rate. Lots to loose for Shore. This was just proven when Jennings got the boot for coming 6th. Lots of Olympic rowers and parents to dissapoint. The weight on the First 8's shoulders this year will be massive.

Kings 1st will be solely year 12s, and second’s primarily as well.
Most bar Isaac (footy focus) of the year 10s have returned but will likely fill out the IVs. This is a strong rowing age group for TKS yr 12 ‘24. 5 will be backing up from last year, Charlie Baker returns from injury, Alfie McLean returns to the firsts after being up and down last year. Leaves one seat open between Wickham, C Whalan and a couple of others.
Conditions permitting if they have a decent season will be looking to break 5.50.
View will be there as always and Shore have a point to prove. Scots have no depth but consistently outperform in the 1st VIII. Will be a good seasons, here’s to sunny skies and no wind.

What's happening with the athletics boys from every school, are they allowed to both do Athletics and Rowing? or do they have to specialize into one. Also, will schools be rowing on the Saturday this week, therefore not coming out to Homebush to the AAGPS athletics carnival? Just thought I should put this out there.

Not to sure. Heard Charlie galligan is doing shot put. Seems to be quits the athlete!

Its strange given that most schools now would be in the dog days of preseason, the early excitement of getting back to rowing wearing off and a long road to HOTR. Id assume due to the length of the season Athletics takes priority but it could hinder some crews from important Saturday sessions.

Shore's boat shed is looking more and more powerful with the likes of Ben Muffet, Alex Smith, Harry Marshall and Liam Macfarlane which are some big names into the 1st VIII boat which provides Shore with a good strong boat that can help win the Major Rennie Trophy back to the Shore boat shed.

Imagine given the shortness of the athletics season it would be given priority. Not too much overlap between rowers and runners. A couple of absences early in the season won't play out much come March given if they're athletes they should be pretty fit anyway - just need to put on the beef.

I think now is the time where the sculling block is well underway, and the gym work will be heavy and constant. Are we nearing 8s and 4s being sorted out? Any word on the schools doing such things?

Has anyone seen View on the water in VIII's at all or just sculls as of the likes of Shore and New?

Who is the new 2nd 8 coach

Personally, would add Pasha Beven into the crew either at stroke and moving Kench somewhere else into the boat. I've heard from different sources that he won the GPS sculling regatta race, by a very lengthy margin (heard 50m, not a clue how reliable). He also rowed in the Australian 4 and won back to back HOTR races.
-Professor
This is very true and a lot of people at shore (coaches) say Pasha is the best rower to come through shore and has heaps of potential. I dont think he has lived up to his FULL potential post school though.

Seem to be able to hide more than other school based on the fact they aren't on the parramatta river. For schools such as Shore, Kings and Newington it is not as easy to hide.

I've heard similar, funnily enough, I have heard that he was not very good technically although was just tough, very tough. A very impressive 6:08 erg too considering his light-weight.

Still would have to disagree, Bevan spent 2 years in the First VIII, while Tom Barnes (2016) held a sub 6:05 2k erg, with 2 sculling championships and 3 years in the First 8. That level of skill and power is unmatched. Its incredible that Shore had these two once in a generation rowers in the same boat with the class of Jackson Kench.

Shore, King’s, Newington and Grammar all in sculls, not sure about Riverview though. Big sculling block right now with Big Boat selections most likely taking place in the holidays.

Scots are the dark horse this season. I personally believe Joeys will win the whole cup, with Scots or Shore either 2nd or 3rd
Scot’s don’t have a strong Yr 10 group coming in and lost their coach, I see them 5-6th in a rebuilding year
