Amazing. What a game - the best outcome for everyone:

1) Portgual win, first and foremost
2) Fiji go through, deservedly, even though their performances are slowly getting worse
3) Wallabies go home, which is the best outcome for Australian Rugby in the professional era. Time to reset the clocks and make some fucking changes.
Abso- lutely true Pfitzy, a great game to finish on and the right results for all involved in our pool.

I am pumped for Fiji and Portugal. Portugal played their guts out all tournament and Fiji are through. I thought 15 from fulltime Portugal were cooked but they lifted again. Hope Fiji don't get flogged on the training paddock this week. They look as though the last 6 weeks have caught with them (since the England win). Hopefully they will get a few injured back as well.

What a win!
So stoked for Portugal.
Hoping that the game will only get stronger over there on the back of this performance and that football is knocked off the front of the sporting media for a short period of time.
Few players will now retire and the coach has stood down, hopefully they can start to rebuild a team to see them over here at the next RWC.

Happy to give them one.

Samoa getting the raw end of the TMO there. How do you go back after already giving the try AND attempting the conversion?

I was initially with you 100% on this but it turns out that...

"...it is part of World Rugby’s TMO protocols, which were updated and operational from July 1 last year.

"In what is a five-page document, the relevant part reads:

"Should the broadcaster provide an angle after a conversion takes place but before the restart has been taken, that clearly shows an infringement has taken place, then the TMO/referee should use the video referral process to deal with the infringement.

"Previously, it was indeed that if a conversion had been taken, then that was that, no ability for the TMO to come in."

Portugal have been great all tournament, and brilliant to watch. Fiji not at their best, especially their handling, hopefully they can step up against England. But full credit to Portugal, they've been the surprise of the tournament and outperformed expectations in every game.

Really feels like the time is right to start a European Cup every 4 years between world cups - the development of Georgia, Portugal and Spain is pretty compelling.

They should be running a tournament at the same time as the 6 nations involving them + Romania every year.

Your idea is good though.

Maybe an Asian Cup also as a chance for Aus to win something?

Yep....I saw this later. I still think they got the raw end of the deal with the TMO.

In saying that, the game was theirs for the taking and Manu Samoa couldn't quite get there. He had a pretty good game but those penalty kicks that Sopoaga didn't get out really hurt.

Manu Samoa need more games against top tier nations - you can see how over the years, the player quality has improved by having a lot of guys playing in professional comps around the world.

Great win for Portugal, I'm stoked for them. Hopefully Fiji can lift for the quarter against England and at least one side can play some footy.

That already exists (Rugby Europe Championship), but it doesn't give them exposure to the top teams. With seemingly no appetite to expand the 6 nations, having a larger European Cup once every 4 years (so keep the 6 nations and REC in the other 3) might be more palatable.

Asia-Pacific Cup could be good too. Or maybe just split the world into 2 for these 'between world cup' tournaments. I.e. Europe and Africa; and Asia-Pacific and Americas (so Aus, NZ, Arg, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Japan, Uruguay, Chile, USA, Canada + 1 more).

So the win is making all the headlines in Portugal.
Great for the growth of the game there!!
This is the frontpage of the Number 1 Football selling newspaper in Portugal - 900,000 readers per day - been around since 1945.
Definitely first time rugby has knocked off a football (soccer) headline off the front page.

So this has topped off one hell of week for Portuguese Rugby.
The team arriving back at Lisbon airport greeted by fans.

I'm pretty sure the Wallabies will be trying to sneak back into the country this week and go into hiding for a little bit.

But I digress, so good to see countries like Portugal actually engaging with Rugby and really getting up there with the RWC.

I could've sworn I saw the coach down at Coogee Beach early this morning

Some old mate put a fairly tasteless selfie up yesterday from a plane with a few Wallabies sitting in cattle class in the background. He copped a bit of a berating for it from non-aussies which I thought was pretty admirable actually.

Point being, I think they have already snuck back into the country and it's entirely possible (probable) that Eddie was down at Coogee this morning

I think Wales are gonna touch Argentina up. Cheika has been so disappointing this season after such a promising previous year.

England are also gonna punish Fiji. Fiji are done man, they got done by Portugal.
