If it's a winger then Matt Hulme from Joeys missed out on both squads and he was decent by all reports.

But Chris F' Sautia can cover wing if one of them gets injured; so I thought the greater need was in the centres.

Good morning all and I hope we all enjoyed the Rugby at Ballymore yesterday. What a pity the caterers ( I guess that's what they thought they were ) couldn't match the quality of the games. In their defence though, not too many of them are aware that the quality of food at Boarding Schools has improved over the years ( remember the Finals haven't been in Qld for some time ) and they wrongly assumed that you can serve anything up to kids and they will devour it.Gee,the Head of Catering at TSS was head-hunted to supervise the food at the Athletes Village at Beijing so maybe they should speak with him !!
Can one of you learned men/women out there help me to understand why I can access this site and get the Oz Schoolboys team but when i go to the Oz Schoolboys web-site I can't find it anywhere!!! Maybe they are de-briefing the cooks??
Back to the footy and there were some great moments yesterday.I thought the Qld wingers were very good, some great finishing from the Qld 11 in the Qld 2 team(did he make the Scholboys Team ?),not too many outstanding performances, perhaps apart from that last try by Crook when he absolutely "scorched " the NSW defence, the light-stepping #10 from NSW,the Qld 2 #11 scoring the winning try in th ecorner, great determinationand pace.I guess the "stage" that these boys are playing might inhibit heir natural skills ( the fear of failure rearing its head) adn we don't get to see their "real" talents on show.Perhaps it also has something to do with playing instructions.I was fortunate enough to watch the trial match between Brisbane State High and The Southport School ( no I don't have a son there),and it was probably one of the best games I have EVER had the pleasure to watch. It was counter-attack after counter-attack from both sides and running the ball from deep in defence.Yet,at these trials and many others, you will see boys kick the ball from a scrum/ruck/maul in their own 22 even though they may have a considerable overlap and the opportunity to run! Oh well,,there are big stakes on offer I suppose.
Having said that, well done to all the boys that participated,to those that were chosen for higher rep honours and I hope that the lads ( all those shoulders !!) that sustained injuries have speedy recoveries.
A plea to all now.It has been enjoyable contributing ( as little as I did ) to this forum and I hope that now the Championships have concluded the same level of sensible comment can be maintained throughout the rest of the relevant scholboy comps.
Good luck to all

Cherrio people, taking the big bird back to civilisation so wont be here any more.

To answer a couple of questions posed by others:
Lee - Apparently Taumata can play 10, 12 and 15 and Qld had him there in the first game. I hear he is a good 12.
Again Lee - Hulme wasn't that impressive this week. Solid, dependable yes but no where near the 4 Qld wingers who are all chosen in the 2 teams. He certainly got smoked yesterday in no uncertain fashion.

Goldenone - teams not up yet. We posted the list (excuses for inaccuracies) by writing it down as it was named yesterday.

Elfster - apparently Clark's injury is not good.

just heard that at least one of those selected today in Aust A squad has stayed in Qld to compete this week in the equilivent league carnival.
Is it just me or is this wrong?
is there some way that kids must commit to Rugby for a period of time before they take their place in these rep teams?

Interesting one. Im all for kids being kids and not having to commit themselves solely to anything. If he was contracted to one or the other than that is a diffferent situation. I know there are many kids who competed who also play league. That being said they are getting to an age when these decisions will soon have to be made. Interesting to note though that the NSW league teams for their championships were selected before ours and there is merit in someone who sees through with his commitments. Any idea who the player is?

Anyone know of a kid called Daniel Gogogski? He goes to my school (in no way are we a rugby superpower, we are the spoiled eastern suburbs ones) and I heard he was selected for NSW schools.

Shame about young Clark. His school will miss him...when I saw him play against Waverly early in the season he seemed to be the spark for their backline. I had heard about him being a bit of a "gun" and he was quite a good player.

Hopefully his run of injuries is something that won't be ongoing!!

He is a back from NSW.
It is good for the individual to keep their options open, but I would hate to see a repeat of last year when a kid was selected to tour UK, everyone knew he had signed an NRL contract, he denied it, he toured, he now plays toyota Cup.

Based on the selections of half-backs I assume that Ben Black of Chevalier College (NSW 1) had a quiet Championship and Tim Duchesne of Knox Grammar (NSW 2) School had a ripper.

I also assume that since Waldo Wessels is in year 11 he was selected in the Australia A team due to the fact that he has another year to play?

Any observations or comments?

black would be disappointed with the week, Donlan was by far the best of the 9's, don't know how wessells got picked as he hardly got any game time. ( i am not bagging him, just stating that he got little opportunity to strut his stuff)

Rhys Brodie is good technically - i.e. scrums, and around the breakdown (by watching him at bally). But lacks coordination in his ball work, and needs to get his hands on the ball more and truck it up as he barely takes hitups
