It seems most of the stuff he releases people already know about and in some cases already widely 'accept', aka the Chinese hacking squads.

And to be fair on him, he does contact relevant governments and ask which names should be removed for safety reasons, before releasing any information.

Channel 4 last night - only TV news worth watching - declined to mention the detail of his "sexual assault" charges. I was so outraged I even tweeted the presenters! Should they change their tune tonight it'll be another win for G&GR

Also, I strongly suspect POB is involved in victimising another Australian here

Was just about to post that, Moses. Are you following the live coverage on the Guardian? As they say: "Shameless. You really could not make it up."

Jooolya was adamant yesterday that he had broken the law on sky news in resp0onse to the threat that he may sue her for defamation. Unfortunately I had to run for a flight so I couldn't find out what law she was referring to.

I'm not around all of what has been leaked, but I for one don't think it will do any real damage. It effect it might put a few politicians on notice to treat others with more respect, particularly American pollies and diplomats. The leaks show some real contempt they have for others.

And as others have mentioned his previous releases have done some good.

The mass media wouldn't have the guts to release any of this information. Someone should do it.

I agree in regards too the tit for tat stuff said about forign leaders but he stepped over the line releasing things like Rudd's comments on military force on China and identifying key infrustructure.

I still think this bloke is on a power trip and question his motives in a big way.

Assange himself is a good read in today's Australian

In response to Ruggo, in Assange's on words
WikiLeaks is not the only publisher of the US embassy cables. Other media outlets, including Britain's The Guardian, The New York Times, El Pais in Spain and Der Spiegel in Germany have published the same redacted cables.
Add The Australian, ABC, and the Sydney Morning Herald to that list.

He didn't leak the material, and he was amongst a who's who list in publishing it.

As I see it, Assange has overstepped his responsibility to provide transperancy in government. I believe that it SHOULD be an illegal act, to post illegal information on the website (ie; the confidential files). The leaks that he is currently releasing are simply back ally bitchyness leaks, which harms internal and external diplomatic relations. This is coming when diplomatic relations are incredibly important. For him to continue sitting on leaks is totally irresponsible.

Being said, the Australian Government has a responsibility to support Assange, and this case seems like a beat up. It's just as well that he has Geoffrey Robertson as his lawyer, as he won't tolerate this injustice.

No need to check. She tends to make them up as she goes along.

I was just in court to provide surety in case bail was granted to Julian Assange of wikileaks. It wasn't. Statement to follow.

I make no judgment of Julian Assange as an individual as I have never met him.

I offered my support, as I believe that this is about the universal right of freedom of information and our right to be told the truth.

NB- Julian Assange has not actually been charged as yet.
http://twitter.com/JemKhan said:
Swedish prosecutors don't have to produce any evidence that Assange committed the alleged sexual offences to justify the warrant.

http://twitter.com/JemKhan said:
Assange's accuser wrote- "7 Steps to Legal Revenge" which explains how women can use the courts to get their own back on unfaithful lovers.

By the way the judge referred to wikileaks as "wikipedia" in court today.

Wikipedia must be thrilled.

I think she's spot on in the above. I don't much like Mr Assange (more about his personality than his work), but he is entitled to due process and this case seems petty.

They'll be thrilled, so long as Paypal, Amazon, Mastercard, Visa, Swiss bank PostFinance and EveryDNS don't also close their accounts for "illegal activity".
