Maybe slightly OT, but as a Reds fan living in Sydney, I'm constantly amazed by the disdain shown by the local rugby press - most evident with the way (in my eyes at least) that the SMH "journos" update the ladder on the rugbyheaven site.

The full ladder shows Reds 2nd on the table, rather than the 1st place they should be occupying (I think it goes points, then wins this year, rather than points then differential), but you might explain that a simple misunderstanding.... Except for the fact, that earlier in the year, the ladder updating process stopped as it would have meant elevating the Reds above the Tahs..

I have emailed the bloke at Sportsdata (who provide the table) to highlight the error of his ways. Hopefully they'll fix it up soon.

Congrats to the Reds supporters with your team. A well deserved and hard worked victory. They looked passionate and hunger in this one specially their forwards. The one thing I like about the Reds is that they can change their gameplan with Cooper. He spread it well and then they can change it and yesterday they pin us back with the boot. Muskiet havent had the best of days but so were most of the Stormers. That two yellows cost us dearly and we were lucky not to had a third one. Thought Baba was lucky not to get one for his trip. I did like the bit of Johann Sadie when he made his Stormers debut, look full of running and surely one to watch in the future, that next Jean of Paarl Gym. Also thought Dewaldt played well behind a struggling pack and clean out well. Habana struggled all game. Back to the drawing board for our lot still surely would take one loss at the start of the season after 7 rounds anyday. S15 aint about losing one match, its about getting back on winning ways after that loss, which is important and Lions at home wont be easy for us.

I agree PB, you don't win the comp in early April so no point getting too excited yet. At least they haven't already ruled themselves out of winning IT though which was the norm from 2003 to 2009.

But, if the Reds win their next 5 on the trot, then it will be time to get excited! To do that they'll need to dispatch most of the heavyweights of the comp.

Can they do it? Only time wil tell. Lets hope they stay injury free as that really put the brakes on their chances at the end of last season.

The vagaries of the draw have certainly played into their hands though. Remaining Home games are the Bulls, Tahs, Blues, Crusaders and Brumbies so all the big guns have to come to us now.

Thanks, and fingers crossed :)

Well said PB.

As Skinstad indicated in the commentary: good teams sometimes, unaccountably, have bad days. That, with the fact that the Reds played like they could win even on a good Stormers day sealed the result. The trick is not to have bad days at the pointy end of the season.

The Reds had their bad day against the Tahs and weren't too flash against the Force at home in Rd. 1 either. The Tahs have had a couple of bad days and have won ugly on others. Even the Crusaders were poo in the 2nd half of R1., though, to be fair: Chris Pollock was dodgy in favour of the Blues after oranges.

It makes one nervous: watching a game and not knowing if a bad day is unfolding for your team in front of your eyes doesn't it?

Thanks Paarl.

All the pre-match expectation seemed to weight pretty heavy on the Stormers, but it was still a bloody good game. Will take a special team to get through a season this long undefeated. Seems to be a lot of comments on some of the SA forums about missing JdV's leadership on the field - any truth to that?

Thought Jaco Peyper had a good game, let it flow well. Must admit I was one who thought we would suffer a bit, so I owe the guy an apology.

interesting comments
The pace of the game was such that Wallabies lock Rob Simmons rated it the fastest he'd experienced and also paid tribute to the play-making efforts of Genia and Cooper.

"I was very proud," McKenzie told AAP. "It was one of our best wins since I've been around.

"Tactically, we won the battle and physically we won it too, we did a great job.

"This was never going to be an extravagant game.

"In the address before the game, I likened it to a Test match and we were going out to play a Test match and every little thing was going to matter, and they put us under pressure in the set piece and things like that, but we were able to put them under more pressure.

You wouldn't expect anything less from the Keo boys! Can't have an Aussie team win by playing better in their eyes.

Wrong country dude, thats a NZ trait. Other team is never better we just play badly sometimes.

Beaten by a better team playing against a team who had there worst game of the season. Even with 14 men for 60 mins probably would have lost that.

Wake up call hopefully before the away games.

Well done Reds could not have lost to a more humble bunch of guys!!! pffft

:D - did you actually write those two lines so close together with a straight face?

^Typo

Meant to be the Stormer's won't score more than 10 points ;)

Oh and I think this is finally the end of Fainga'a starting, about time. Woeful throwing again.

I know you're a just a lowly troll and all but this Faainga hating business shits me. Hanson lost 5 throws whilst he was on the field. I think it had a lot more to do with Bekker than anything else.

I must say that for those people that thought the Reds a one trick pony in terms of only being a flashy team that could run and dance well, by God have a look at this game. Aggression, muscle, willingness to hit bodies and the kind of grinding play that would make any Pom coach weep with joy.

You know you are in some alternate dimension when you hear the Saffa commentators say that Cooper has made some critical tackles.....

If you were taking notice you would have seen a similar game plan against the Brumbies.

Another theory might be that neither Hanson nor Fainga'a are very good at lineout throwing. Just a thought. There are many ways to look at things. Stormers lost a few lineouts too, so maybe Bekker isn't that good and wasn't the factor? Who knows.

This is also a very good possibility Cyclo, however the Reds lineout has been running at around 90% before this game... or so I read somewhere during the week. I think I'll stick with the Bekker theory.

Well, you might be right. :lmao:

Hanson threw reasonably well on previous appearances. It was a big stage this time - what 46k? at Newlands, a 7 foot bogan leaning across the line, his big opportunity getting the start. Looking forward to seeing how he backs up.

I thought Hansons throwing went down hill fast after he had been on the field for his "normal" amount of time, maybe with more game time and game fitness he will improve.

I thought Hanson had a great game in the tight which is his strength. The lineouts became a schemozzle for the Reds with utter confusion at the jump. Call the lineout play on the way to the lineout lads...not when you are there. Get in and out as quickly as possible without allowing the opposition to set.

Yea I agree Keo is a fair bit OTT jingoism. Sandpit.

Yes i did Gagger as well as admitting we "probably would have lost that".
