They are the chosen back ups for Cooper & Beale, it makes sense to start them once before the RWC

Yes, but I don't agree with them being the chosen backups. If Cooper and or Beale go down, I suggest that we shouldn't be leaving our other most creative player on the wing.

I think a number of things can be deduced from the team:

1) Giteau is seen as Cooper's replacement.
2) JOC (James O'Connor) is not seen as a centre option.
3) Kepu is the understudy for Fat-Cat at LHP. If Fat-Cat goes down, then Slipper to THP, Kepy to THP.
4) McCabe is likely seen as the versatile Mr Fix-It in the backline. Covering 12-15.
5) Timani and Vickerman will fight it out for the reserve spot in the RWC.

Any other observations?

Could easily go (1-15):
Alexander, Moore, Kepu, Sharpe, Vickerman, Elsom (C), Hodgson, Dennis, Phipps, Giteau, Turner, McCabe, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), O'Connor, Gerrard. Would still easily win, I'd have Timani starting but Vickerman will probably get the gig due to his need for match fitness.

My prediction wasn't too far off. I'm more interested in who's got kicking duties.

Dave Dennis and Dean Mumm will probably not get a chance to prove themselves by the looks of things, not that we need them.

Further to this, if we are trialling a new centre combination, then I think we should trial them outside our first choice flyhalf. It will make a big difference to the overall structure of the team.

That would mean that Timani has leapfrogged Simmons?
I reckon Deans just wants to have a look at both Timani and Vicks and see where they are at knowing already where his other 3 locks are.

Alexander or Slipper are probably the bench prop (with the other 1st choice TH) with Kepu the next in line for that.

I doubt Timani is ahead of Simmons. Simmons is only young and has played the whole S15 season at lock. That's gotta take a lot out of a guys so young, to be mixing it with the best tight forwards in close every week. I'd be selecting him before Timani who is a great runner of the ball but not as good in close, in the tight. I'd be taking Simmons over him to play as a classic tight lock anyday. I wouldn't mind Timani being chosen or played off the bench as a 6 or 8 to run the ball but I don't back his tight game over the other locks in the squad.

Simmons' real competition is from Vickerman IMO. If Vicks can show he is still a force at test level at lock then I think there is a huge chance he will be picked on the bench (with Sharpe and Horwill starting) for the RWC over Simmons.

Slipper is the perfect bench option for the RWC and TriNations in my mind. Benny and Kepu start as they've developed a great partnership in the scrum at the Tahs this year. Then Slipper can play both sides and will provide something around the ground off the bench.

I was disappointed to see Kepu having to play at LH when he's been the form TH allyear...

However, I think it now makes sense... With Robinson injured you dont want Alexander or Daley playing at LH...

And since Daley probably won't figure in the world cup squad it's probably a good opportunity to give Kepu some time at LH in case Robinson goes down...

Anyways, this is obviously a fringe team with numerous first choice players being rested...

I wouldn't look too much into preferences as there are many in this team that won't figure in the World Cup...

Deans may just have Alexander as his #1 TH.
Probably wants to recreate our successful 2009 scrum.

Or he has Slipper pegged as our TH.
Either way Kepu is down the order for now.

Why would he be down the order?

I just don't thin he wanted to field a weaker LH in Daley... while wanting to test out KEpu's abilities at LH and Alexander at TH... Its obviously an opportunity to experiment..

I disagree. I think is signals the fact that Kepu is seen as a versitile prop that can cover both sides of the scrum. Whether he is played at starting THP (when Robbo is fit) and moves to LHP when Slipper or Alexander comes on in a test match, or he starts on the bench, I think this demonstrates that Sekope will figure in the 1st picked 22 man team.

Give yourself an uppercut !!!!!

Baxter remains an excellent tighthead prop. Against any team except the ABs, Poms and maybe the French he's quite likely to dominate. It has always been so. His exit from the world stage was the result of his targeting by those teams, and on some famous occasions he actually got the better of them.
