Schadenfreude

A massive number of games this year in Qld scheduled for 7:40pm... not that great for all the family memberships they've sold... including mine.

Is there a marital advice section of G&GR where someone can advise me how to broach the subject of staying home with the kid to my wife?

In 2012 the Reds are set to have the largest membership base in QLD out of all the A-League, NRL and AFL teams..
If they are able to eclipse 30'700 they will break the Queensland membership record which was held by the Brisbane Lions in 2004(after 3 consecutive premierships)

Great news for the Reds, but I hope they don't all drop off at once.

I laughed at the 15K target and they proved me wrong.
I laughed at the 30K target and it looks like I could be wrong again.

One thing for sure need to allow a bit more time to get to and from the ground this year.

I had to speak to the membership office today to sort out a few minor errors with my seating allocation, and was told that the Platinum membership was virtually sold out. I don't know what the cap of members is for this package but that seems to be a very, very good result for the club.

It would be interesting to know what the breakdown of those 5.5K is per members package (Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Weary Dunlop).
Unfortunately what happens when you come to the table last.

10 AFL clubs (some with the biggest membership numbers), 2 A League franchises (the only city with this) and a 14 year old League team.

200 Memberships a day....

A press release today had them at 25101 memberships, so it should be less than 5K to go now.

Tickets to the St.George Queensland Reds highly anticipated 2012 FxPro Super Rugby regular season are now on sale with seats to all eight blockbuster home matches at Suncorp Stadium available through Ticketek.

Record crowds flocked to Suncorp Stadium in 2011 to witness the Reds historic Super Rugby success which captured the hearts and minds of the Queensland Rugby public.

That support has seen a record 25,101 members already sign-up to the Reds Army for next season in a positive indicator that the Reds are tracking to match or better last year’s season attendance crowd average of 33,254, including finals.

Yeah, but the membership potential is there. The trick is getting people to convert interest to financial support. I'm always reminded of the old "Field of Dreams" quote: Build it and they will come.

A Union team in Melbourne will take time to build, but the support will come, make no mistake!

The problem here is that there is only 8 home games a year and a membership level with good seating (gold and platinum) is not cheap.

Blue and silver are probably more affordable, but of course the spectator view is not optimal. At least with AFL, the round oval means all seats are pretty much the same.

It'll be interesting to see the crowds for the trial games vs Round 2 vs Round 4.

As you'd know, massive drop after the Tahs game. Mixture of the margin and 1st game hype.

Well, if the fan day at Visy park is any indication, the interest level is still quite low. I think there were maybe 1500 people there to meet and greet the team.

I am really not expecting huge crowds at the trial games. No real advertising so it will only be the members who will have had a chance to get pumped.

The best thing for the Rebels as they start up is the games against the other Australian teams. It allows a "Big V" mentality against NSW/QLD/WA, etc, which always gets Melbournites excited, regardless of code.

Are you kidding me? Farmers cry poor when they can't buy this year's new v8 ute. There's plenty of farmers doing it tough, some years - but it isn't all heartache. Check the cane farmer's and fruit grower's boats next time you head north.

Yep and check their debt balances along side. Sometimes looks can be deceptive. Yes I know farmers cry poor a lot. I have spent a significant period of my life telling a lot of them to shut up and stand on their own two feet if they want to be taken seriously. But like all walks of life the noisy miniority get the most attention. Most are head down bum up working like christ for a lifestyle and keep us all in food and fibre. No it all isn't heartache, but you generally do it for the lifestyle not to become a millionarie.

Problem is, it was during the week. A lot of people weren't happy about this.

Advertising will start soon, from what I gather

I don't think the members' day is any indicator. On a Tuesday pressing 40c, I'm surprised they got 1500.

Interest is rising but there's still a lot of work to do to get the bandwagoner fan.

The good news is that everyone is close or over last years figures. Looks like every franchise should have more members this year! You know what this means? Rugby will be the real winner!
