Seems a little funny that one can play in the state championships without participating in the week by week slog around the village ovals on Sundays.

Some of the boys playing village club footy week in week out must feel a bit like the boys who have their 1st XV hopes dashed when the Scholarship boys arrive in Year 11 or Year 12.

No problem with the boys who play both club and school, good luck to them. They deserve to have two pathways to higher representative honours.

Boys who are not prepared to play BOTH Park footy and School footy should not deserve to have two representative pathways open to them.

NOTE to MODS. This has probably been done to death previously, and/or may be better posted in the "Schoolboy Scholarship" or "Selection prejudice" threads. Please feel free to move this post as appropriate.
HJ The vast majority of the boys have played village rugby since they were 6 o7 years of age.( they have done their time) By the 16s they are just not up to 2 serious games of rugby and the niggling injuries that wont go away from week to week. Remembering that there is a 6 week rep season to add to those 2 games each week. Its the boys themselves that pull out of village generally, although there is a push at some schools to make this compulsory. Add to the games the official training runs and their extra training and it just doesn't fit into a 16 years old life who is trying to crank up his partying and maybe/hopefully his study., By 16s the players all know who should be in the rep teams so I can't equate it to the elite athlete scholarships for year 10 that the schools all agreed about 10 years ago was not the way to go . So I feel they do deserve the pathways. On another note, swapping from a weaker rep team to a stronger team(16s) without putting in the hours should be stopped by the powers to be, cause it makes a mockery of the whole system

I'm hearing rumblings that all the U/17 stars will not be playing at the State Champs this weekend.

Some are injured, however it is my understanding that many have opted to only concentrate on school representative rugby!

If you go to the NSWJRU website and take the 20 minutes or so to actually read the eligibility section of the competition handbook you would appreciate that it is not just a case of the wandering gypsy.

SJRU have also introduced restrictions on rep players moving between clubs and players can only play for another district if they have first made themselves available for their “local” district. There have been instances of districts naming their squads AFTER the deadline so that non-selected players cannot go elsewhere if not selected – that’s a bit over top for junior sport.

Sad for these titles but a ray of sanity for fatigue in young players - (ref your & my comments in the CCC strand) - I heard that Syd Uni were a bit devo that one of their U17 boys got red carded on Thursday at the CAS / CHS rompathon

I was running the line for 4 games today and saw a real mixed bunch in the 17's. Parra drew with Central Coast, Parra beat West Harbour, Warringah beat West Harbour and Central Coast, Randwick beat Southern and Uni. Randwick looked quite slick today and could be in with a shot. Parra started very badly and never really got going in the first game and after about 10 phases of play got a penalty a few metres out and kicked a goal to draw rather than continuing the momentum to win??

Did anyone see any of the other 17's results with Eastwood and Manly?

I saw randwick beat uni in the 17's, Warringah 17's win their first game.
In the 16's I saw Gordon flog Wests. Hunter beat Penrith, Warringah beat the Hobbits, Eastwood beat West and Norths beat Penrith.

Predicting Norths vs Gordon in Final with North to sneak in.

Norths seem to be a slightly different team from that which is playing in the Sydney Juniors Sunday B Grade village competition.

The rules may allow this large influx of players for the State Champs, but it just seems morally wrong.

I will follow up with a report a little later, as the Aus v Coalminers test is on now, suffice to say the Galloping Greens look the team to beat this year in the U/17's!

An absolute great display of rugby by the junior 'Wicks' today!

Was not impressed with Norths display today. On paper they looked a good team, but Randwick obviously thought otherwise! The shoulder charging of Norths 'Robbie Wolfgramm' eventually cost him a yellow card and any chance of a spot in the SJRU team I bet. So absolutely blatant it wasn't funny!

Parra are not the team of recent years! There non-selection of certain players in favour of unknown Hills and Hawkesbury lads has seen there favouritism plummet IMO. Nevertheless they are still a team to reckoned with!

A Wicks v Two Blues final in the U/17's is my forecast! It will be a cracker of a game as well!

Didn't see Parra in the U17's so can't comment on them but thought that the Wicks seemed to run out of puff towards the end of the Wicks v Uni Game. The let Uni back into the game, despite the Big Boppers from Uni walking around near the end.

Loved the Mambo Farting Dog logo on the Wicks Jumper!

Probably courtesy of some surf shop in Coggee I bet ... lmao!

Would have to agree with your summation of the Randwick forwards! Freddy Motu looks to be carrying a fair bit of extra weight and was blowing real hard at the end! No Anthony Vasilis (who is a 80 minute player if you get what I mean) didn't help! Real energiser bunny that lad!

From what I have heard, St Andrews is playing Fred Motu at #8. What a waste of front row talent. Fred is built like a Front Rower, not an 8. They must have awesome props, and poor loosies to play a prop as 8.

Norths flogged Southern Districts in 14's 42-0.
Central West was beating Randwick 21-7 when I left near half time.

Its good to see the country teams do well! It generally speaks of junior rugby being healthy across the whole of NSW!

From my understanding the Central Coast boys kept the might of Parramatta to a draw in the U/17's yesterday! Either way CC played with great distinction!

The CC scrum-half, Brent Acreman, had an absolute blinder and I dare say we will see him at the City v Country fixture in August. He is already in the U/17 CJRU squad in addition to the U/18 NSWCCC team!

It looks like it rained last night here in Sydney. I hope the weather holds up today otherwise it will detract from a great spectacle!

Anyone willing to have a crack at the SJRU and CJRU U/17's teams? The selection of the 15's and 16's happens after regional so it's somewhat futile having a dig now!

In the 15's so far these teams are undefeated; Gordon, Warringah, Eastwood and Randwick. All of these teams will most likely win their games today and the semi finals will be; Gordon vs Randwick and Eastwood vs Warringah.

I actually wonder how many U17 teams will compete? From what I have heard, a lot of the private school rep players were not allowed to play club rugby. I certainly have not seen the likes of Tepai, Jamo Clark, Cameron Orr, Malaki Afele, Junior Satiu, Jake Roberts, Connor Finn, Matt Matson, Brent Whicker (are there any more lol), playing in club rugby so how would these guys make themselves eligible for the state champs? It wouldn't be the same without this lot!
I am surprised though, as it means they would only have the one pathway - schools.

I think you'll find that at U17 level the most attractive rep pathway for players achieving high rep honours is through schools - starting off with selection in CHS, GPS, CAS, ISA etc then selection in NSW Schools, competing at the Australian Schools Championships then selection in Australian Schools teams who this year play a couple of games at home against Tonga before departing on a tour of Fiji and New Zealand in September/October with games against their National schools, Presidents and Barbarians sides.

If a player is selected in the NSWJRU U17's team this year they get to play NSW Country and possibly WAJRU U17's.

CTPE,

A few more games than that my friend. They are:

SJRU v CJRU - 5 August 2012

NSWJRU v ACTJRU - 16 September 2012

NSWJRU v QLDJRU - 30 September 2012

What is the 'Representative' (i.e. SJRU or CJRU) eligibility for those who did not play at the State Champs through either conscious 'Non Participation' and 'Injury'?

You are indeed right Newbie but given a choice IMO the Schools pathway looks much more appealing.
