I'm surprised no one has mentioned Phipps. At the ground I thought he was close to the Rebels best and sparked a lot of their attack.

Pyle and Jones were tremendous and the Rebels lineout was light years ahead of last year.

I thought it was a decent game for the first round.

I was impressed by the ticker shown by the Force. They played as a tight unit and could have won if they'd have kicked a little bit better and not given away so many penalties/cards. Kyle Godwin (who looks to have bulked up since last season) and Alfie Mafi were two standouts, but I thought Alcock, Cowan and Faulkner were also good.

As for the Rebels, in the end their talent won out. Guys like JOC (James O'Connor), Beale, Kingi, Pyle have that game-breaking ability that the Force lack. I thought JOC (James O'Connor) was outstanding given it was his first game back after a long break, he hasn't lost his composure and power in tight. Beale was a bit quiet, Higgers was poor (he got the balance between mongrel and hothead a bit wrong, which he can do occasionally), Pyle and Jones were good. Front row stood up much better than I thought they would.

Both sides should have decent enough seasons, although neither really fired a warning to the rest of the comp. But these things aren't won in week 1 and you'd be a fool to predict too much coming out of tonight.

For a first up effort I was pretty happy with that. Godwin really showed that X factor ability to beat the first man we need. Tupou is a bloody big unit and I want to see more. Dellit did OK but his break down work is sloppy and will cost penalties unless he improves. Forward pack were good as always, lots of good off loads in contact.

I purposely watched Cheetas CC games when I heard we had signed Ebersohn and was disappointed each time, nothing tonight changed my mind about the wisdom of signing him. Christie appears to have all the skills but didn't impose himself on the game. Need to see more to know.

We now need Foley to roll the dice and some how get CTM, Junior and those other X Factor players into the side.

I would love to see next week

9. Matthewson
10. Godwin
11. Mafi
12. CTM
13. Rasolea
14. Cummins
15. Tupou

That was definitely a game the force should've won. Clearly dominant in the first half, but unfortunately lost 4 or 5 of our own lineouts, which really makes it difficult to maintain momentum. That and the few missed penalty / conversion attempts and we should have been 10 to 15 points in the clear by half time. Still, that's by far the most dangerous the force have looked in attack for a long time. Godwin is really looking the good this year - excellent strength in contact and freeeing of the arms to get the offload away.

Should've been closer towards the end as well. That yellow card for Alby was one of the most ridiculous decisions I've seen for a long time and pretty much ruined the game. I think a lot of people might be eating their words about how average the force are going to go this year. As a new unit with Hodgson, MMM and Honey Badger to come in, we will surely only get better. I have no doubt we'll finish above the Rebels this year.

I think we'll be putting a bit of training effort into lineouts and defense this week!

On a side note, do any of the rebels backs not have a completely ridiculous looking haircut?

Well done Force
Great game. Sorry to spread some sad news however....... the ref was terrible at the scrum. The force much better but for some reason the ref decided to reset scrums and muck around instead of giving penalties. The first rebel scrum that was any good they got a penalty. The card to Alby was ridiculous as well and handed the game to the rebels. I thought the Ref bought into the home crowd.

As on performence of the teams

I thought the force unknown where great. Christie was good, Godwin was great (beating tackles and offloading)
I can't wait to see Cummins, SNK and Hodgson in the side. The Force definatly the better side tonight.

imagine if we still had Sharpie. our biggest problem tonught was lineout.
keep pockock and JOC (James O'Connor) and we would be a serious contender this year. I still think we will do quite well.

The Rebels were average. Jones and Pyle had a great night however they were up against back rowers in a line-out......
Beal didnlt show much however JOC (James O'Connor) showed some great acceleration and vision.

I thought the Rebels were marginally the better team and probably deserved the win. That said, their handling in the first half was nothing short of atrocious. The Force looked to me like the Waratahs did last year - static runners, and relying on multiple phases to breakdown the defence. I thought they did it well, and will win a few games with those tactics. Their lineout is a major worry.

The ref was very generous to the Rebels scrum. The number 3 had his hand on the ground nearly every scrum, and folded in under pressure at least twice, but was never penalised for it. Alcock was the best loose forward in the game. Godwin had a very good game, but I thought Christie was anonymous throughout, and then I realised he was nearly always at fullback.

When the Rebels backline finally started to get some ball in the second half it looked like they were always going to win it. JOC (James O'Connor) played very well second half, and never looked like missing a kick at goal.

I didn't think Christie was good at all, Godwin was the playmaker standing at inside centre, and Christie would just shovel the ball to him each time... Maybe it was the game plan but I really didn't see anything from Christie which impressed..

Godwin however impressed me, has fast feet, a nice little offload and looked right at home playing at that level.

I pretty much agree with your summary. Even in the first half when the Rebels' handling was atrocious I thought they would win if they could control the ball. Which is how it turned out. Pyle was my MOM and will be knocking hard on the door to the Wallabies. Ref was ordinary but to my mind was much the same to both teams. Alby's sin binning was harsh but he was deliberately interfering to stop another quick penalty being taken. What else could the ref do?

Your right about the sin binning. The ref should of just let it go. It wasn't a big deal. Just scrum halves playing. If Alby had been doing it throughout the and It would of been fair enough.

One thing that pleased me was at around the 65th minute, when the Rebels got that try to put them 11 up, and we were down to 13 men, I thought that it was going to be a blow out.
But the Force regrouped and grabbed a try back and it was game on again.

And in regards to Godwins goal kicking, I missed the first 10 minutes of the game, but he missed two after that, both from the sideline. They werent easy kicks.

What's everyone's thoughts on MMM, cummins, Sheehan,Hodgson and SKN still to come into the force squad.

I thought Alby was good and probably underplayed his card. He didn't mind running at the line. As the game went on there were ( hope I used the right there were lol) holes around the breakdown but he still passed the ball instead of having a go. All in all he was good. Sheehan offers a bit of mongrel that Alby doesn't have. It will e great when they are both in the 22.

Hodgson is needed IMO. We need the experience in the back row. I know brown and Benny have some experience but Hodgson being the team leader needs to be there with cottrell.

MmM will add some much needed height and experience to the line out he is the tallest member of the starting side. We defiantly need help in the line out department going forward.

Cummins speaks for himself. Passion 110% effort and that's all you can ask. Runs hard and strait. I though we did well getting the ball out wide compared to last year. Cummins should see more ball this year which is great. With Mafi on the other wing we have 2 good wingers.

SNK. Who knows? Could be great. Could be average. Either way he will add good experience to the backs.

1. Pek Cowan (c)
2. Nathan Charles
3. Tetera Faulkner
4. Sam Wykes
5. MMM
6. Hodgson
7. Chris Alcock
8. Ben McCalman
9. Alby Mathewson
10. Godwin
11. Alfie Mafi
12. Eberson
13. Winston Stanley
14. Cummins
15. SKN
Reserves
16. Heath Tessmann*
17. Kieran Longbottom / Manu/ maafu
18. Phoenix Battye / Lynn
19. Richard Brown/ cottrell
20. Sheehan
21. Christie/ Hayward/ delit
22. Junior Rasolea/ tupou

That bench isn't to bad. Good props and back row. It's going to be hard to pick a whole 22 for coach.
