he is a good finisher, but that isn't enough for first choice wobs

I expect the back three for the Lions to be

11 Digby
14 JOC (James O'Connor)
15 Beale

I suspect you are right, that is probably how Deans will play it, but neither JO'C nor Beale had good defensive games last week. They will need to improve or the Wallabies will be toast.

Fotu should start at 8 and Mowen at 6 for me Mowen is a 6 not an 8 anyway.. Did anyone see the bump Fotu gave Quirk when he tried to tackle him, poor young guy bounced off like he was nothing.
Interesting listening to Fisher on the podslam about what he see the roles of 6 and 8 being. In the Fisher model Mowen suits 8 but we are all used to *'s being the ball runner and 6 as the work horse.
I think Fotu starting will give the Brumbies mush more go forward and free up the backline to do more damage. I can't see Kimlin making the impact required with the ball in hand to get the team on the front foot.

They will both defend well enough when it counts, but what they will give us is real kick return threat and attacking threat from set piece.

I know this is getting away from the thread a bit, but I expect a strong defensive set of centres to be picked in McCabe (maybe Taps, but I think Deans will go for McCabe) and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper).

Surely he wont go back to McCabe at 12 now that he has seen what tapuai has to offer with a left foot kicking game.

I wouldn't bet against it, McCabe will be in the leading Aus S15 side and his game is very good, and not just the limited stuff he has done in tests.

Nope, he's also a rock under the high ball and an excellent defender.

Many of the Wallabies back 3 are terrible at the first, and only some of them are good at the second........

Yeah he's a great player but I wouldn't think him and Digby would create a very balanced back 3, they are quite similar.

Still, Diggers gets broken a fair bit.

But if the To'omua/Lealiifano combination works as well as it did early last year, poor old Patty might find he is on the bench when he returns.

Initially that may be the case. He could also get a run at 13 (not that Andrew Smith put a foot wrong last season and was good against the Reds).

I highly doubt McCabe will spend much time riding the pine once he is back at full fitness. Same with Tomane. The Brumbies might actually employ a proper rotational policy if everyone stays fit. That will of course make them fantasy rugby lepers!

Speight was the best outside back in Australia last year in Super rugby by some margin. Diggers and JOC (James O'Connor) will be selected before him but he'd have to be close to next in line. Beale definitely does not have the 15 jersey locked down. He has been pretty average for a few years..at test level last year he was pretty bad at 15. JOC (James O'Connor) could still play 15 at that level...not saying it's the right thing but could happen which would mean Speight comes into picture. Speight

One game into the season is a bit early to say he will be in the leading Aus side.

McCabe and Tapuai are both very good players, but completely different. Personally I think Tapuai is an all-round better player due to his distribution and kicking game, which McCabe isn't as strong as. But I guess it will come down to what game plan Deans wants. But as we know, Deans is stupid, so no logical decision will be made ever haha.

I've said it for ages but, McCabe at 13. But I think it's getting a bit late to see that, he won't play there for the Brumbies this year.

I wouldn't be so sure, and it will probably depend on To'omua's form......... I expect one of the following to occur:

a) McCabe replaces Smith at outside centre

b) Lilo moves to flyhalf and McCabe slots back into inside centre

c) McCabe sits on the bench (highly unlikely)

There's no way McCabe will play wing or fullback, nor should he....... he's a centre........

Meanwhile, White is going to invest more time into Canberra's premier club rugby players by selecting a 22-man squad to train with and against the Brumbies from next month.
With no third-tier competition in Australia, White wants to improve the talent depth in the capital.
He will work with John I Dent Cup coaches to reward the in-form players with a chance to train in a Super Rugby environment on a regular basis. ''Hopefully it can be some motivation for club rugby in Canberra and it will give players a chance to impress and push their claims for contracts,'' White said.

God I'm loving Jake White.
