attacking positions kicked away again. beale and oconnor should never never ever do the dinky chips again ever. 3 times and not one even nearly a 50 50 ball let alone a chance of an advantage to the rebs. on two occasions the tahs scored from the resulting change of possession. will they never learn.

Rebels looked pretty good in the first half, Phipps best half of footy for a long time. Weeks was good in that half too. Oconnor and Beale looked dangerous. Had all the ball probably would have wanted to score another couple.
Second half tahs turn it around, for mine Hooper was the pick of them. Played well in the first half aswell in a side going backwards he was a warrior in defence. Volavola help to spark things and after a ordinary first half Foley turned it around. Fat Cat had a great game for a Loose head. Folau improved dramatically in defence and attack. Lopeti made some impact at 8.
Unfortunate performance from the Japanese hooker and I though Jones didnt have a good night at 6. Tommy carter looked pedestrian in attack for the tahs. Chapman was ill disciplined.

You've summed it up fairly well. Carter looked like a park footballer who found himself out there and was lost for what to do.
The Tahs are going to have to produce a full 80 minutes of the game they played in the 2nd half in order to come out on top next week.

Waratahs were disgraceful in the first half. One of the few opportunities they had got shut down because Adam Ashley Cooper decided not to pass the ball, geez thats a surprise. The guy is useless as a centre.
But I post this because they are playing much better in the second half, I am watching it in delay so who knows what happens. But they are a different team at the moment. Its pleasing. (for a while at least)

Cut short Friday night drinks to strap myself in for the Tahs' best opportunity to collect a bonus point win in 12 months.
Very disappointed with the lack of intensity from the home side in the 1st half. Too many forced passes & frequent ill discipline. Cheika needs to channel some of his half-time rev ups for the immediate pre-match.
Apart from the terrible 1st few minutes of the 2nd half the Tahs showed what they can do if they hold onto the ball & build sustained pressure. Best game I've seen from Robinson for a number of seasons. Hooper's class shone through as the game progressed, Volavola has a bit of X factor & Folau was valuable in the lead up to both tries. Very happy to see Ryan cross for his first Super try.
Need to see much more from the Tahs from the get go next week because the Brumbies won't relinquish a 10 points lead.

So here's the thing; when a team is attacking, there are several critical elements that need to be considered, and carried out with some level of competency.
1) Don't just stand there and chuck the ball to your mate who is in line with you, standing right next to you, and not moving forward either.
2) Listen to the refs instructions. Then actually do what he fucking says!
3) Try and get a little deeper in structure with your passes so that when the defence rushes up, they have to rush a distance greater than the length of my knob, which in terms of distance, is not very far.
The Rebels have no teeth in attack at all. A try was left begging by Inman not even seeing Kingi outside him, in space, with about 10 metres to get over the line. That game just proves that not only does Mitch only have one direction in his legs, he also has no fucking vision beyond straight ahead. He is the perfect fit for RD's "play what's in front of you", because that's all he can fucking see.
Don't blame JOC (James O'Connor) and Beale for chipping kicks. At least when they chipped, the fucking ball went fucking forward. The Rebels have no ability to carry the fucking ball forward into fucking contact, for fuck's sake.

The intent from the Tahs is much better, but there is one thing that doesn't seem to have changed from last year, and that is retaining concentration for 80 minutes. It's about not losing focus, because not keeping concentration can be the only reason professional footballers keep dropping the ball, keep getting pinged for dumb penalties, right in front of a ref who's actually telling them what to do. TPN, whose footy I greatly respect, simply doesn't seem to able to throw a footy into a line-out, never has, probably never will. And Foley's kick-offs, WTF?? What I'm saying here is it's not skill, it's not talent, it's not intent that's killing the Tahs, it's a lack of ability to concentrate enough for 80 minutes to do the little things we expect of under 12's. I mean guys, this isn't a cricket test, we're not asking for five days, just 80 minutes!!!
There is a lot to like in the 2013 Tahs so far as against the 2012 model, but unless we can clean up these basics we are going to be roadkill for the top sides. We really should have put 40 on the Rebels, who have four or five class players and not much else.

True. But I question what value the touchies add, apart from carrying out a bit of semaphore signalling during the lineout.
If a touchie can't see a prop's hand on the ground from side on, not once, but three or four times, then what is the point of having them?

they have improved a lot on last year but, "flatter only to deceive" i feel.
the rebels can play attacking rugby and hold onto the ball but in the second half reverted to the stuff from last year.
passes to blokes standing still, turning over attacking ball at the breakdown and lineout, some one on one missed tackles and i agree a lot of passengers in the second half. jones had his least impressive game, kingi did a couple of stupid things, higinbotham needs to do more (but was better than last week), hori pretty horrible, the centres defended well but are unimaginative in attack, JOC (James O'Connor) played well i thought. KB (Kurtley Beale) hot and cold again, shoulder ? worse than people letting on, very ineffectual tackles again tonight. we desperately need vuna and woodward back to make the most of the opportunities the forwards are giving the team

Game of two halves, all rebels then all tahs. we just weren't in the game in the first half, too many mistakes which were somewhat capitalised on by the rebels. They should have had a bigger half time lead, they bombed a try plus could possibly have gone for the line rather than take the 3 given they were dominating.
Come the second half, the tahs get the wind, the intensity of the game picks up and, between the mistakes, the tahs have some good rugby with offloads and pop passes and plenty of support runners. The last pass let us down a couple of times, otherwise we could have had this wrapped up earlier.
I thought Beale and JOC (James O'Connor) were pretty good for the rebels, they took a few bad options but threatened often and also covered up some waratah threats nicely. The rebels whole game revolves around them, and thats a problem. I would love to have either at the tahs.
For the tahs, line outs poor, restarts poor (both defending and receiving), some sloppy mistakes (I'm looking at you D Mitchell) and way too much ill discipline in the first half. But the effort was there, the defence was sound and the contuinity (when they did keep the ball) was good.
I gave Izzy a pass mark, played a nice hand in the lead up to both of our first two tries. Thought our best were Fat Cat, Dennis and Hooper. Kepu and Palu looked off the pace. Vevolva (sp?) is all over the palce (in a good way) on the field, I think he should be used as an impact player of the bench.
Crowd was poor, half time entertainment poor and it was bloody freezing. Still a better outing than most of the home games from last year.

Rebels regained the ball at the beginning of the 2nd half - I thought go for an early field goal to get an early boost. But they failed to really pressure the Tahs.
Then it was all the Tahs for the next half hour. The couple of times the Rebels had some ball it was kicked away, once by Beale and another by O'Connor and both kicks were fielded by Volavola, the last person you would want to hand over easy possession.
Waratahs look threatening with the ball and they should get more so in the coming weeks - provided they don't fall into sleepy periods. Suspect they are mentally tougher this year.
Rebels lack firepower but if they can reproduce tonights' 1st half style, they can notch a few wins - maybe they should get a bit fitter though.
